E12 M535i at BMW U.K. sale of 2 millionth car

No, I've been in contact with BMW UK on this matter. They told me the car was on loan for the event from a private owner. I knew they could (understandably) not proivide his details to me, so I've asked them to forward mine to him, so if the owner wished, he could contact me instead. BMW told me they could not do that either because of UK privacy laws. Strange, as I've asked them myself... Perhaps the owner is on / or reads this forum at some point.....? E12 M535i at BMW U.K. sale of 2 millionth car

Hi, As said, I also doubt the story about an E12 M535i being sold as the first car by BMW U.K. But is sure looks nice to have one present at this event. And I agree, the E12 looks far better and more like a BMW then the 5GT. But the question remains: who owns the E12 M535i in the picture...? '80 E12 M535i '00 E46 318Ci '86 E30 320i Regards, Ronald.
  3. Hello, Last October, BMW UK sold its 2 millionts car. For the occasion a Polaris E12 M535i was also present, to celebrate the event. As it seems, the very first car BMW U.K. sold was an E12 M535i, hence it's presence. See link for the story http://www.egmcartec...millionth-mark/ I think the date mentioned for the first sale can not be correct, as the first RHD cars only arrived on UK mainland in September/October 1980, not January. BMW U.K. told me the E12 M535i was on loan from a private owner. I was wondering if anybody here owns the car, or knows the person who does. I would like to learn more about the car, as it seems it's not yet in my database of 260+ surviving cars worldwide. Here is the picture of the cars at BMW U.K. headquarters: Best wishes from Holland, Ronald. '80 E12 M535i '00 E46 318Ci '86 E30 320i

    E12 M535i "The Panasonic Car"

Hi, I'm investigating a particular E12 M535i which is known as the "Panasonic Car" amongst various UK E12 M535i enthusiasts. Sofar however, I've have not been able to find out more about why the car carries this name. This is RHD chassis 147. Perhaps it has a link with the Panasonic company, but I somehow doubt that. And if there was a link, what is it, and how/when did the car became known under this name. At the end of last year the car turned up for sale somewhere, and from the pic it looks in quite good condition. Is there anyone out here who might be able to shed some light on this? Perhaps a few former owners here? Many thanks, Ronald. '80 E12 M535i

Charles Dorai ? M535 in BMW Car March issue ?

Hi, Good to hear there seem to be at least 3 other E12 M535i's in Norway. In Sweden also a couple of them are known. It would be nice if you could find out more about those, even if they are not registered. However, this makes it a lot more difficult to find them and get some info, specially if the owners are non-club members. Please keep me posted, specially on the recently arrived car if you see it at a clubmeeting. Regards, Ronald

Charles Dorai ? M535 in BMW Car March issue ?

Hi, good news the car goes to a good new home in Norway. Do you happen to know the new owner perhaps? Would be nice to keep in toch and perhaps see pics of the car once in Norway? Are there any more E12 M535i's running in Norway that you know? Regards, Ronald.

Charles Dorai ? M535 in BMW Car March issue ?

Hi, Yes, indeed an excellent article and great 'advertisement' for the rare E12 M535i cars! The car is the RHD sister to my LHD car, as it has the same last three digits of the chassisnr. As I understood the car is offered for sale, not cheap though. Hope she finds a good and caring new home. Regards, Ronald.

Dutch RHD E12 M535i needs rescue!

Yep, I also think he's way off the mark with his price. He said that price was based on all the rust being cured properly, but I don't think that's possible for that money, I mean properly... On the other hand, the car is now at least presented honestly, what you see is what you get, and that's better than having the car presented after a quick & dirty filler job, which will show all the horrors a year later. It's a real shame the car is probably stuggeling to get sold in Holland as it is RHD. But I do hope there is a real E12 M535i enthusiasts out there, who appreciates the unique history with the car, and is willing and able to restore the car properly. I still believe it's worth it. You'll not be making money on it, but if you're enjoying restorationwork and really like the E12 M535i, this should be a perfect project. Haggle very hard on the price though. The seller told me that the price was considerably less when the car was bought as is. Let's hope it will not end-up in the crusher Ronald. '80 E12 M535i

Wow, that's incredible! Thanks for this info! What a sad ending for this car. I guess this crash must have been enroute to the 2003 LeMans race then? (referring to the above DVLA record) Forumposting was from Aug 2007, but car was there quite e bit longer by the looks of it. Does your mate kept any pics whilst he owned it in the UK? Would be great to see the car when it was still in good order. I don't think she'll be on the road again.

Hello, Thanks for the info. Your car looks like it could be a new car to the register, I just can't read the plate-nr from the pic, but I don't have that many Henna-red coloured cars in the database. Would like to hear more about the car if possible, if you wish off-line through Pm/Email. Regards, Ronald

    SWY7W

Hello, Interesting, and it seems you have a more detailed (chronological) history on the car's life than I have. What I had on file was from hear-say, so could be not entirely accurate in a chronological way. Do you have any pics left from the time you've owned the car? The folks from Doncaster, do you perhaps have a clue how I can contact them? I would like to know more about the "Panasonic car", which they also owned at the time. Thanks, Ronald.

    SWY7W

Hello, This is the car which featured in Total BMW Magazine in 2001. The last status I have on this car dates from September 2005, so a bit over 3 years ago. The car was owned by two people called Mark & Paul from Doncaster. It is indeed sapphire blue, and not polaris. These people also owned another E12 M535i at the time, called "The Panasonic car" whatever that means. This car was white. (I have the chassisnr of this car on file aswell, but no pics or plate-nr.) If anyone out here has some info on this 'Panasonic' name in connection with the car I would like to hear from you. Unfortunately I've never received any recent updates on the current status and owner(s) of SWY7W. If I hear anything about it, I'll post it here. Best wishes from Holland, Ronald. '80 E12 M535i.

Hi, Many thanks for your help regarding this car. Appreciate it. Indeed might be a long shot, but if it indeed turns out to be this car you've worked on in the past, it would be great to learn more about it and what happened in France from the previous owner. And if it's not this car, I would still like to know more on the car you've done some work on, so if the previous owner is able to assist with more info on the car he owned at the time, that would be great for my E12 M535i register. Perhaps still a new car for my records. Thanks and best wishes from Holland.
