  1. Great write up, cleaning the washer pump filter has been on my to-do list for ages but kept putting it off because it's such a faff. Followed your instructions when it was getting dark this evening - dead easy, the washer jets are now much more powerful. Took me a few goes to realise you don't have to remove the siphon pipe when adding more water Cheers
  2. The missus 520d has the dreaded chain noise, its on 108K so it's kinda expected. Anyhoo, I was thinking, if the engine is going to be lifted, what other maintenance can be done - gearbox oil, torque converter service etc? Is there any easy preventative issues I should be asking to get done when the engine is out? Cheers
  3. I've got a retractable towbar on my F11, it works well, looks good and is a bit of a party trick. However, I do worry that it may fail and it will happen when we're on holiday at the other end of the country just about to pack up. I never had the worry with a detachable towbar on the old car.
  4. I'm getting an eggy smell from the vents - most noticeable when just started, but just about detectable when waiting at a junction. Still there whether AC is on or off. Google suggests its a failing catalytic converter. Is this correct with a diesel 520 (2011)? Any idea how much this is likely to cost me? Cheers

2015 F10 PPS uncoding after accident

Can you describe where the sensor is, and how did you disconnect it? Cheers

    drone/rumble f11 Air filter Housing

Same on my F11 525, but only in drive. Annoying that I have to get the missus to sit with her foot on the brake while I fiddle under the bonnet.

    F11 525d DDE Error Code 0x260100

I may change sensor "10" then report back. Almost identical situation, 2012 525D - code from Carly says 260100 but it runs fine and MPG OK, recent EGR cooler recall as well.

Did you get this sorted? Which sensor was faulty?

    Time to warm up

I've noticed that my 2012 525d N47 is taking a while to warm up. Yesterday (ambient 3 degrees) it took over 20 mins of countryside A road driving before the gauge stabilised just below 100, it blows warm air within a couple of minutes in the cabin. Is that normal or suggestive of thermostat problems. It's going in on Friday for the EGR cooler recall, could that be the fault? Cheers

    Air con refresh

Makes sense. I've been over-thinking it.

    Air con refresh

I originally posted in the detailing section but it's a bit quiet there. I'm the proud new owner of a 2012 525d but there is a bit of a musty smell coming from the AC. I'm awaiting delivery of one of those aerosol AC spray cleaners that you allow to recirculate in a closed cabin. I'm also going to replace the cabin filters. So my question is - do I run the cleaner spray with the filters removed, otherwise surely the activated carbon will removed the active stuff from the aerosol? What do you think?

    525d, 3l or 2l?

I've seen 2 very similar 2011 525d tourings, one is 3 litre and the other 2 litre. The 3l doesn't have the timing chain problems but it isn't as efficient as the 2l. I reckon that I'll do 18k per year, considering all that, which one to choose?

But wasting 3 days of a bankholiday weekend (ECP open on the Sat am) would have upset the missus
