Like in a manual when you just slam the clutch out and it jerks.

Pulsing is normal because valves are operated with PWM voltage. If you put temp setting to max 32 C water valves should stay open like they are in rest state.

What did you do to your E39 today ?

It’s the 4 subframe bushes I’m referring to, not too hard to remove with the subframe out of the car... not sure what your mechanic is referring to? it’s taken me ages to do! But the car is in the garage for the winter and it’s a hobby. I got the car in the air by driving the front onto ramps and then axle stands on the rear jacking points

I didn’t say that stage 3 causes more wear. I said I couldn’t comment on that because I don’t know. I went with stage 2, my choice was nothing to do with wear. stage 2 is in fact the most popular choice. That coming from one of the guys at XHP on the forum. Most will go for stage 3 then return to 2 because 3 is too aggressive. I don’t think it’s made for the road personally. don’t forget as well. The shift time increases are most prevalent under full throttle. Time is increased on part throttle but it isn’t much.

    Looking to buy F10 Petrol

Don't quite understand why? They are banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 not the supply of petrol and diesel. In fact hybrids are not being banned so why will petrol cars alone go up in price?

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Changed the gaskets on A & B drums, re-seated few journal bearings so the drums spin freely now. Spoke to a owner of a machine shop to do some custom job on valve body when it will be ready.. Ordered a size 34 deep socket from ebay as all the local shops doesn't have it(odd size). Will continue work at the weekend. Gearbox upgrade can be done, it just takes time to catalog everything. Not a one weekend job if it's being done for the first time...

    Windscreen options

Clima comfort has heat (IR) reflective layer to keep inside cooler. From inside it looks like normal slightly green tinted windscreen. From the outside it has purple tint especially from certain angles.

    Annoying G31 issues

OK, just done that. In adaptive mode, on the dash I have "little green sidelights light", light green headlight symbol with an "A" superimposed and a blue headlight symbol. The blue light does not go out when the adaptive headlights are doing their waggly thang but does when the system decides to dip the headlights e.g. under streetlights...................

    E61 gearbox. . . . . .

I don’t know where this idea that in D it sets off in 2nd. I had the dash set to show what gear I was in when in D. It never stayed in 2nd when at a standstill.

I’m not sure that is the main point, given that the 2030 date is just for the sale of new cars and no one is currently talking about a date where IC cars will be banned from the road. Indeed, it’s unlikely they ever will - either they will just disappear slowly as older cars get scrapped, or if that happens too slowly they will probably just be taxed heavily enough that only the most devoted enthusiasts will want to run them.

I think everyone is missing the main point about all of this. Namely, where in the name of the missionary position are countless folk like me getting the money for a used electric car? We are the 'cast offs' brigade, driving ten to 20 year old big beasties like my 2003 e60 simply because that is all we can afford. I couldn't agree more that it is not only inevitable but essential that emissions are cut, but surely although 2030 is the proposed cut off date to make new diesel and petrol vehicles, they will have to allow the use of our dinasours for quite a while after that, If I am lucky enough to be around in 2030 it would be tipping me into my 80th year so thankfully I will be driving F.A.

Not a lot to report re the car now; it’s not moving much during lockdown bar the weekly shopping Been busy with it this morning though getting a few bits done before winter really kicks in... Car up on axle stands this morning (fronts then the rears); all wheel arches scrubbed and treated (front ones are new around 2 months ago so wanted to make sure that the bolts and plastic clips were all tight as they should be). Shocks and springs wiped down (sad I know but whilst I was cleaning everything else...) Winter alloys cleaned inside and out and then the cars been snowfoamed, rinsed, washed, rinsed, Autoglym Polar Seal applied, towel dried, all door shuts/tailgate shuts and fuel filler flap recess dried off and rubbers all treated with Gummipfledge and tyres treated with Autoglym Tyre Dressing Perfectly timed now as it’s raining
