    Coronavirus/Covid19

I'm stocked up with heating spares and have equipped myself with respirator and protective clothing so that I can sort out the heating for folk who are infected or self isolating..I'm sure it scares the hell out of the customers neighbours... Obviously I can visit up to 10 customers a day the gear is designed to protect the vulnerable in the event of me having picked up something nasty through the day though at the moment the bulk of what I am doing is in empty houses working on my own.. I think that the nature of a virus means that the majority of us will be infected over the next year or so, as has been suggested, it is possible that a fair number of us have already been infected and have recovered.

It's easy to change the fuel filter just make sure you don't get fuel in your eyes, and have a container to catch some fuel as you disconnect the pipe. Couple of YouTube videos I found should help you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktotUjmgvx8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OIsjBtHs04

    Coronavirus/Covid19

The rules have also been relaxed for 'non-food (personal care and household paper and cleaning) and over the counter pharmaceuticals'. Or to put it another way, bog roll, disinfectant and hand sanitisers. It is difficult not to conclude that drivers' safety is being put at risk as a direct result of panic buying.

    e28 project

Hi guys, I picked up this 525e at the weekend. The car had sat under a tree for a long time. I wasn't holding out much hope when going to view it but as they don't come up often I thought I'd make the 2hr round trip to see it. I was surprised to find it as solid as it is. sills, arches, roof, sunroof, door bottoms, boot floor, inner guards, floors all in great nick. One of the window mechanisms had been removed and the window fallen down for some time. The floor was soaked so I set about stripping the seats and carpet out of it. My plan is to recomission it and drive it as a weekend Car. The car came with no keys but I was chatting to a guy who told me to bring a barrel along and he could strip it and build a key off it so fingers crossed. I've a barrel out and ready to go. The car sits on 4x (what I think are) magnesium style 5 wheels. they aren't alloy anyway. I will keep posting progress as I go along. Ever since I sold me e30 sport in 2014 I've been looking to replace it with something of the same era, I have a 1995 540i project but my relationship is on and off with it. Waiting for the better weather to get it finished. I stripped the carpet out to see what I'm dealing with and to my surprise there is no rot on the floor. A previous repair to passenger side footwell is the only sign of repair work. As the car came with no keys i stripped the drivers door barrel (and passenger door barrel as per Locksmiths requests) out and brought them to a locksmith to make me up a key. I collected it today and had an anxious drive home to see if the ignition barrel matched the doors. Good news is it does! Not only that but a battery and a few cranks and she started right up, albeit a bit tappy. I'm super happy with the project this far and will post progress as I go.

The children were being well behaved today, and allowed me to retreat to a quiet corner to do some man maths and trawl through a wedge of receipts, bills and service history pertaining to my beloved E39. Here are the numbers: - Bought in Jan 2014 for £1700, 177k on the clock (now at 216k) - Total servicing spend over 6 years ownership £7063.14 (includes all services/repairs, tyres, MOTs, excludes petrol and recent bumper repair funded through insurance) - Average annual servicing spend £1177.19 - Total servicing spend over 6 years (£7063.14) + initial purchase (£1700) = £8763.14 - Average annual all-in spend £1460.52 A quick google suggests you can lease an entry level 1 series for just under £300 with VAT.. a month. And never own it. If I'm being balanced, she has developed a thirst over the last few years for 5W40... but that's like £20 for 5L on ECP. In summary - bangernomics adds up. And what a cracking car. Did I mention she's been written off by the insurers twice (both times my car was parked and un-attended), but still going strong?

    The Situation

    RESULT!!!

Update on the below thread. I sent an email to BMW in regards to the fact that my warranty should have covered the works, they contacted Sytner Chigwell on my behalf and I just took a call from one of the managers from that dealership who confirmed that the work should have been covered by the approved used warranty and apologised that this was not the case and will be refunding me the amount I paid in full. It's quite surprising that I had one manager and service agent blunt say I was wrong.... from the actual same dealership!!! Thanking you all for your advice.

The problem is, stuff like Mercs and certainly RS Audis are going to have a lot of expensive issues. I wouldn't touch an RS6. Like all modern cars there is a balance between cost/emissions/sale price etc . On US forums, a lot of owners open the bonnet on their return home, some run without the plastic engine cover and many have trickle chargers. An M5 with diligent maintenance and sparing use of the performance will be as reliable as anything else in its class but they just cannot be thrashed on one hand and serviced like a 520d on the other. Imagine having a Ferrari and treating it like this!

Yes. The tacho head has a little printer in it. You download the printout and make a note of the reason. You keep one copy and hand the other in to the office. They download the data from the card regularly. So they should spot the infringement anyway and request you fill in a form to explain it. You are supposed to stop at the first available place so you could end up parking for the night a couple of miles from your depot. If you don't, you are likely to be prosecuted. The rules are there to help prevent you from driving tired. Somebody appears to have decided that you are safe to drive longer if you have a load of bog roll on board

Now that is one nice money drainer [emoji1419] I think the trick with anything of that calibre is to buy new, and sell once the warranty comes to an end. Unless I was loaded, I'd be worried about keeping any car like that outside of the manufacturer's warranty. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

Have just had to give up driving, at least temporarily. But that would be mine too. Stuck in a shoe box for hours with a load of other blokes sounds like a recipe for spreading a lot more than gossip.

I have plenty of projects i can work on and clear a small back log so my working day won't change immediately. After that there are plenty of jobs i can do around the house. Ebay pile is one but not sure whether now is a good time to sell but would be good to be ready to do so! Time for a bit of "life house keeping" i suggest. AIUI i'm still able to go for a run, walk the dog etc, was thinking if grabbing some paint for a bit of DIY but other than that it will be business as usual for now.

What do you like about you 5 series.

I have a bog standard 520d se LCI with Pro nav, I've retrofitted reverse camera, speed limit display, 6wb and enhanced Bluetooth.. The 120,000 miles I've done in 4yrs and 1month have been totally effortless. Car has not wanted for anything besides regular 10k oil changes, usual servicing, a battery, some bushes for the diff and its seals, engine and gearbox mounts and a few guibos. Returns good mpg if driven sensibly, capable of overtaking/going a little faster with ease The lim function in speed limited areas such as average speed limit areas has been a godsend The gearbox just...works. no delays, coughs or hiccups, it just...works! And in my own opinion, I think it's quite a looker too, especially when clean and it has a certain road presence. Next car will likely be a late model f10 or a g31 LCI which I'll hang onto for 4-5 years or 150k miles, whichever comes first

    Coronavirus/Covid19

My biggest concern at the minute is the drivers waiting rooms at RDCs,surely the rules should be relaxed and let drivers wait in their cabs while being tipped. As for the drivers hours relaxation, there will be hauliers & drivers that will use it to the max, luckily i work for a decent boss & friend who in a conversation this morning said it was up to me what hours i worked,i certainly won,t be driving for 5.30hrs without a break as the relaxation now allows.

    Bangernomics - 2002 530i Sport Touring

I was exactly the same when I had my e34 525ise touring. Didn't like the e39 at the time but they grew on me so I got one years later when the e34 died. E60 has never grown on me.

I recently went to rescue a 1998 Honda my son had left on a driveway for 2 years. He hadnt been to it once in all that time. I checked oil, blew tyres up and jump started it. Fired up on 2nd turn of key. Took for MOT next day and flew through. Don't worry it will be fine. Start it once a week and run up to temp, even every 2 weeks.

E34 was my first 5 and in fact my first Beemer. Loved it, and loathe as I am to say this now, I didn't like E39's back then. 'Too rounded, it's like a jelly mould', said I. Having owned nothing but E39's for last ten years now, it's obvious that I got over that. Whilst I could afford a newer car, I don't want one. IMO the E60 and 61 are ugly as sin. F generation were a step in the right direction but I still can't look at one and say to myself 'Mmmm nice!". Older gens have their charms, but I'm already maintaining a 17 year old car against the odds, so decreasing the availability of parts for carrying out repairs further (given the difficulties I had recently finding a replacement oil cooler, can't guarantee easily sourcing all E39 parts in a hurry already and this is my only car) as I find myself at a time of life with less free time and more bills on my hands isn't a smart move. So here I am, ready to throw the equivalent cost of another car at this 17 year old tourer to keep it alive. I once bought a banger for less than the cost of this this oil cooler alone from BMW just cost me, and ran it for three years. But I can't not. I love these cursed chariots too much.

From the comments I've read from Sir Anthony Regents-Park, I'd ask for my money back and buy a C63 Mercedes instead. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

Just parked up at Sleaford in readiness for a load tonight out of Spalding heading to Cumbernauld for the morning,no toilet rolls just fresh & frozen produce for M&S. One of our lads is loading Leics for Morrisons Bellshill and the other is loading Loo Rolls down to Exeter so we are doing our best to cover all bases, along with many others in the food chain.
