It's been a long time since I've sprayed a car. Is cellulose still the easiest/ least lethal paint to use at home (on the drive- no garage)? Are there any non-toxic 2K paints these days?

I've got a key scratch down the side of my car from end to end: wing, both doors and rear panel, in varying depths and lengths.

What's the best way to do the rear panel? Tape a few inches either side of the scratch and wetNdry, primer, wetNdry, paint, wetNdry, cut, polish?

The scratch is down to metal - I tried Autoglym paint restorer and it got a few light scratches out but the not keyed one.

Suggestions, links much appreciated :)

Cheers for that! Read my own links? Never ;)

That reflection of the car in the door is a bit disconcerting..

Is "Megs WD 2500" wet n dry 2500 grade? 2500?

Waterbased paint are common in the bodyshops now.

Cellulose is being outlawed for general use later this year due to the ROHS laws i believe.

It's a air fed mask job to use that in a bodyshop iirc.

2K, is that two pack? don't think thats been used for several years

I understand, some cellulose will be allowed for classic cars etc, only in limited quantities. (a bit like 4* fuel)

waterbased paint has nothing like the wear properties of cellulose.

The daft thing is they can't product a hard wearing enough water based laquer....

So that will still be the stuff which kills you for the time being.

Which makes the whole thing a load of male chicken as usual

I think that i'd just do it with celly, get a good quality respirator, you're doing it outside and you don't do it everyday so.....

If you can get/have a party size gazebo/tent thing. makes a good temp garage!

Regulator for cellulose? Really?

Simple mask was fine 20 years ago.

So no two pack these days?

As far as i know yes, but thats probably the health and safety nutters gone mad.

As for 2 pack, as far as i'm aware it long gone but may be worth a call to a local paint supplier, they will advise better than me tbh!

I was in my local paint shop today. They still sell 2 pack- saw a few tins on the counter. He said everything they sell today will still be available in the future; there is exemption fo classic cars so if you want cellulose you can still buy it.

Didn't ask too many questions as it was busy and always didn't want to look like a total dumbass ;)
