Not much seems to have happened lately. But old 530d engine has been sold and gone so freed up the engine bay. Dash has been stripped out of the touring. Along with the manual steering column. Drilled a few brackets off inner wing that are not needed. Rear front diff mount has been reinforced. And been sorting out the differences in the wiring. New Parts seem to be arriving in a daily basis at mo ;)

as rear end is a mix and match of m5/touring I thought may as well renew all bushes/arms etc. Then mate gave me a very good price on the front end stuff including a new steering rod assembly so that was delivered. Also new brake lines. Also treated it to a new identity

surley if you have an m5 breaker this cant actually be that bad at all

Depends wot ya call bad I guess. I’ve found about 40 wiring differences so far. Boot floor needs sorting to house the exhausts. Extra brackets need welding on for gearbox. Changing from auto to manual so clutch etc. Fuel lines need changing along with tank and pump. New system need to be designed for the Airride system. Etc etc. Mechanically it all bolts up it’s getting it to work properly lol. But deffo easier having the donor car.

A few wires there mate. Sure it's not easier to chop off the touring bit and we'll it to the M5?

If I can do it on a Ibiza to a mk2 you can I’m sure you can do it to an m5 just on a larger scale ;)

Been a while since I updated so here goes.

Wiring is as far as I know complete.

Inner wings have been sprayed to match the car.

Petrol Fuel tank and m5 fuel lines are on.

Extra gearbox brackets has been welded in place.

Main battery cable from m5 has been transferred over ready for the new boot floor.

Engine and gearbox are in the car.

Rebuilding of rear subframe has commenced with all new bushes. With a mix of lemforder and powerflex bushes.

Brakes have been refurbed and painted

Engine has now been fired so I’m happy wiring is complete and done with. Rear subframe is rebuilt just need a hand to get it under car. Then exhausts can be offered up and  boot floor modified to accept them

Lovely 8)

Are you going with twin exhausts, or a single sided exhaust to keep it more of a sleeper-esque style car etc?

Car had quad exhaust anyway so I’m staying with that just a bit more work to get the H&S exhausts under

Long time since an update so here goes. Car has been fired and up to temp with no problems ;) boot floor has been modified for the modified Hayward and Scott exhausts and sound amazing. Brakes all fitted with new braided lines. First in the uk heated sport steering wheel. Interior started to go back in. Installed a thatcham 2 immobiliser while I had dash out and found a neat place for it to hide. Also installed the electric steering column I’ve had a few years lol. Also got some alcantara covered seat bases

I love this thread.

The tourings are sure getting some love on this forum.

Where'd you pick up the seat base covers in alcantara. Or who did em for you ?

Cheers.

Keep up the good work.

Awesome stuff!!

Darn I planned to do a heated sport wheel, but that was back when I had time - I've given up thinking I'll be the first to do anything as you and others do everything I thought of! :)

Did you strip the elements out of an OE heated bus wheel, or have the re-trimmer fit something new? I take it you got an SMG/heated bus wheel slip ring with the two extra connections through? Are you hiding the OE heating control module and a button in the column (what I planned to do) or have you managed to somehow fit into the sport wheel?

Everything is hidden within the wheel and is all new. It’s just a live and earth to the smg slip ring wires to control it. And will be having relasered buttons like this done for one of the centre switch panels for the button ;)

Awesome!

Do I see you are making ventilated seats also? :)

I think I love you. With even more babies coming and even less time I think I'll just have to live all my crazy retrofit and mod ideas through you! :)

The ventilated seats are in the pipeline as I’m collecting parts. And I also have a few other ideas you’ll prob enjoy. So I’ll keep this updated when i get round to them ;)

Few more parts have been picked up ;)  decided 400bhp wasn’t gonna be enough lol. So we have rotrex supercharger. Evolve plenum. Aquamist water injection system. And an electric fan conversion as I don’t trust the viscous offering not to explode

Bought a few more bits for when it’s finally on the road. Heated AND Cooled seats front and back and massage fronts. So I’ll have front and rear heated/cooled massage seats as I already have e38 comfort massage bladders.

Bought another set of contours ;) in a rather rough state but i Intend to put all the goodies from the E66 seats into them so they will be IMO the ultimate E39 seats with heating cooling and massage. The rear will also be getting the same with lumbar and electric headrests. Also installed the Alcantara covered side panels and picnic tables/vanity mirrors to the old

contours so I can use them whilst building up the new ones ;)
