Do you have this issue? :- Intravee source randomly switches to radio.

Recommended Posts

I'm about to update from 6941 to 6970 here after i finish this quick post.

My setup on my E53 X5 is:

OE Nav unit 4-1/00 w/ oe tape behind the screen

OE sat radio

OE Aux-Input

alpine cd-c and ipod on intravee

When changing sources using the "Mode" button it always goes in order from:

OE AM/FM tuner to

OE cd-c output which is the intravee to

OE tape built into the nav to

OE sat radio to

OE aux and back to

OE AM/FM.

I mainly use the OE AM/FM tuner, the intravee on the OE CD-C port, and the OE Sat radio.

My issue is if I'm using the tuner or the intravee and want to select sat radio or any source after the intravee for that matter, the display will not allow me to view the information that normally displays on the nav screen.  It will momentarily show but revert back to the intravee screen.  The only way for me to view the info from the sources selected after the intravee on my nav screen is to power off the nav unit for an unknown extended period of time (at least 5 to 10 minutes) or to shut the vehicle off for a period of time and restart it with the source left selected to anything after the intravee ie. sat radio prior to shut down.

Basically I have to decide if i want to listen to sat radio on my next drive or not and select that source prior to shut down just so i can view the info on the screen and actually select and change stations on that next drive.  Of course if durring that next drive I decide to change away from sat radio and decide to come back to it, I'm in the dark again with the screen reverting back to the intravee screen.  Keep in mind I'm only refering to what is displayed on the screen for sources after the intravee.  I can hear sources after the intravee just fine and can even change selections on my steering wheel.  But for example unless I start up with the source already set to sat radio, besides getting a glimps of the station on the screen it quickly reverts to the  intravee screen.

I know this sounds confusing, not sure if i even make sence.  Let me know if i need to clarify but if anyone has had this issue or has a fix, please let me know!

Now to try 6970 in hopes that may fix it....

This does not really belong in this thread, but no matter.

6.02-6970 will almost certainly not fix this problem.

The problem is actually a bug in the radio module! When you have no media in the dash (Tape/CD/MD) the radio does not pause the CDC source, that's correct. The bug is that when you then select the next source, the radio forgets that the CDC is playing and does not send a stop command!

The very lastest radio modules have fixed the bug, but if you put some media (Tape in your case) into the dash slot then the radio sends the correct stop command when you select the source and everything works as it should.

Ok that's easy!  Finding a tape is the hard part lol.

Sorry about posting in the wrong thread.  Feel free to have it moved.

Of course I have to ask, is there a firmware/software update to my radio module that you know of and can direct me to?  Meanwhile, I'll search for a tape.

Yes, not a lot of those about these days!

The radio firmware can be updated, but it requires specialist equipment. There is a forum member that does it in the UK, XKaLiBaR, not sure about the USA, he may know.

Just as a matter of interest, I'd expect your radio to be one of these part numbers

6927910

6927911

6943449

6943450

6964398

6964399

6972662

6972664

6972665

Could you check on the Setup, Extras, Vehicle Info, Device Info, Radio Module option on the Intravee menu.

That's a late version of the earliest Sirius capable tuner! About 5 weeks before the next software update (although I'm not sure if that fixed this bug or not).

Hi Richard. I installed 6970 and it seems to have solved my problems with awols. I purchase from Leigh at toysinyourcar.com and installed an intravee, switch, and a cd changer in my brother's 2006 X5 4.8is yesterday. Installation was succesful but it has a static noise when the intravee is performing any action. This 2006 X5 has a Sirius Radio installed from factory. I tried switching the intravee from my 2005 X5 witch has no Sirius and installed in his car and the static noise is still there. The intravee was delivered with software V6.01 but i instantly updated to 6970 and that didnt cure the static noise Everything works great except for that. Theres no static while song is playing only when song changes and device is searching or performing any action. Can u help with a little assistance please if u possible.

The problem is the Sirius tuner, or more accuratly the Sirius CD Changer slave cable.

There is a jumper inside the Intravee that may improve the noise. If you unscrew the 4 black screws on the bottom of the Intravee, the lid will come off. Near the audio connector socket there is a block of 4 pins labeled JP2. There is a jumper nstalled on pins 2 and 4 of this jumper, try moving the jumper to pins 1 and 3.

There is also a modification you can do to the Sirius slave cable which may also reduce the noise http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=689846

Ok thanks. I will try that tomorrow. The Sirius tuner active but it's currently being used. If I were to unplugged it would that help also? He wanted me to disconnect it yesterday but I wanted to check with u first but I'll try that jumper first. Thanks again.

I just installed 6970.  No source switching issues.  Also, I had a problem where it would skip to the next track when I push the volume down button on the steering wheel.  This has been fixed so far......just two days in though  (this had been a daily occurence).  I'll report back in a few weeks to confirm it's been solved.  Thank you Richard for the new firmware!

This problem is incredibly persistent and does appear to happen on some cars more than others.

The radio software depends what hardware version you have.  For HW 03 the latest software I've seen is 94, for HW 04 it's 43.

The only thing I know of that will help to find the problem is an iBus log that has been taken when it happens.  This is not an easy thing to get unless it happens very frequently, you log permanently or you just get lucky!  There also appears to be a small correlation between logging and AWOLs, if you log, you get less!!  So, ideally you need something like a Net Book with long battery life (or an inverter to keep a laptop charged) and log every journey with an iBus Interface and NavCoder (or similar) with the Intravee ibusd off.  You need to log every journey from start to finish.  If you do get an AWOL then you need to remember the approximate location, time, track that was playing etc. because the log files can be very large.

09/2002 530dA Touring same problem. Does not happen very often, but once in a while. Intravee with latest firmware on 16:9 Navigation MKIV, Siemens cordless telephone, no DSP, no HiFi.

I just have ordered an iBus interface in order to install a Raspberry Pi. Maybe I can use it for logging the iBus.

Do you have this problem with the firmware version displayed in the picture or an earlier version?

6.02-6970 implemented a very high priority iBus message queue which should significantly reduce the problem. Until someone can log the iBus messages of an AWOL with this build or higher I don't know how to improve things further.
