Hi guys,

my car has been repaired twice now for level control system failure and both of the times it was fixed by hughes brothers and guess what... It happened for the 3rd time!!! they don't provide me with like a months warranty and when i called them up today to ask them why this happened again and that i expect this to be fixed for free. They basically told me to F*** off and not come back!!! :x I am actually Gobsmacked!!!

Is there anything i can do to them to get my money back ore report them because I've just been scammed by 'BMW Specialists!!!'

Thanks guys

I do know of another forum member who has had troubles with them...

Trading standards maybe your only chance,or maybe take to small claims to recoup repair costs if you can prove its neglect of the garage that has caused the problem..

In reality,it could be 3 seperate issues with 3 different components failing..

So this place called Hughes Brothers of Derby... are you saying Hughes Brothers of Derby are proper tools, and that we should avoid Hughes Brothers of Derby? Do they seem like cowboy mechanics? Rip - offs? Do Hughes Brothers, Derby have bad customer service?

Right....if you Google "HUGHES BROTHERS OF DERBY" as Kenny pointed out the second link down takes you to this forum http://forums.merced...816 Entitled "AVOID Hughes Brothers of chegures lane derby" Now register on the site and tell them what your experience was with them and also link to this thread so everyone can see it. :)

Also you could start another thread just saying "Hughes brothers derby" nothing else as Most people will only google that, not bmw specialist etc in the title and it should pop up at the top of the list then every week just bump the thread and that should keep it at the top of the google page, so anyone wanting to see what they are like will see your thread and go elsewhere. :)

As Alpinaman has already said go to trading standards......if you dont then nothing will happen and they will continue to do this to other bmw owners........... the more complaints the better.

The only problem i can see is if 3 different components havent broken on 3 different occasions.

And even if they havent, proving it will be difficult..

As the OP said, reading between the lines they initially thought the compressor was at fault... But replaced an air spring(much cheaper for the OP).. That obviously sorted it as the car was fixed for an indertimined time..

Now... What got fitted the second time ?

Whats wrong with it on this 3rd occasion ?

Another air spring, coupling, compressor could have gone faulty...??

If the same component keeps failing then you have every right to complain and ask for your money back. If different things are failing it isnt the garages fault..

Yes the first time it was the compressor at fault as diagnosed by the trader i bought it off but he didnt have the facilities to fix it. so i went to these guys and they replaced the air spring instead! 2nd time the air spring was faulty but they replaced it again free of charge but all the time it was the compressor that was faulty and they never ever replaced it! The funny thing is on the invoice sheet it says that the compressor faulty and it should be replaced (on two invoices) but they havn't even done that and now when called them up again(3rd time) they said get lost!!!!

Its ridiculous because they are meant to be specialists in BMW and they dont even know how to read of a diagnostic sheet which says to fix the compressor!

I think you are able to lodge a small court claim action for a small sum, with evidence to support what/why/how much.
They would then have to defend your claim or settle.
Trading standards can correct the above as it is not a complicated process from memory, but there are claim limits, i.e. how much - below £3k ??

Ok..

You will find that the compressor windings have burnt and caused a fault because the air spring had burst or had a leak.. So the compressor was running too much to try and keep the car at a constant level, subsequently overheating the compressor.

So yes the compressor was faulty, but the fault was caused by the air spring..

Now,the compressor couldnt have been completly dead or it wouldnt have reinflated the airspring when fitted,,

IMHO you have has 2 faults here... A bad airspring AND a faulty compressor...

They have fitted the airspring because it has been leaking and because the compressor reinflated the airspring without a problem then they thought the compressor was in good order and had been misdiagnosed..

To be honest i think you are gonna fight a losing battle...

on the diagnostic sheets it says clearly that the compressor takes too long subsequently overheating so really they should have replaced both parts the first time! plus the compressor couldnt have inflated the airbag up in time if it where overheating... overall they are still rip offs and i shall see what trading standards shall say tomorrow.

Yep,thats your perogative..

Upto now i see that you have only paid to have a broken airsping fixed....Why not have the compressor fitted by another garage and your problems will be sorted.

Although Hughes Brothers havent lived upto your requirements, they havent overcharged you,or charged you for repairing something that wasnt broken..

Why do you think they have ripped you off ?

I see that your upset because your car isnt fixed, but under what circumstances do you think you have a leg to stand on when it comes to claiming money back off the garage?

Lookin back through your posts what you are failing to mention that your car was initially repaired in June. They then repaired the car again without charge and now some 6 months later you go back and start complaining that they initially should have changed the compressor ???

No wonder you are getting told to p!ss off....

right

1st time:

because i got it through a garage/trader i had warranty so hughes bros where supposed to repair the compressor but they replaced the air spring.

2nd time: the compressor was faulty but they charged me £806inc vat and when i checked the invoice a week ago it said the air spring was replaced again because it was faulty??

3rd time(now) the error has come again - ok if i take it to hughes bros they'll probably change another air spring! so thats why im saying this!

why are you sticking up for these robbers anyway?

Im not "sticking up" for these "robbers"..

But i see both sides of the story...

You are not telling the whole story so people can create a balanced opinion...... You are weighting the story so people feel sorry for you,but im afraid it doesnt wash with me...

You have a faulty car..... Pay for it to be repaired, like the rest of us have to....Simple.........

While we are slagging off bmw specialists, there is one in Loughborough that I had a bad experience with!

My old 316 went for an MOT and failed on the hand brake not being tight enough.

I was told I needed all new rear discs/pads/calipers/carriers and it would cost over 300 quid.

I was rather confused as the car only had drums on the rear! So why does it need discs!

After complaining they simply tightened up the handbrake cable and it was fine!

I just wonder the amount of people actually fall for their lies!

The moral of this tale is NEVER to accept/collect a newly purchased vehicle from a dealer/trader with a known fault. Particularly never agree to have a third party affect repairs. A trader is legally obliged to offer a minimum of three month warranty and the sale of goods act has a pretty good standing beyond this, (depending of the fault). Once a third party carries out repairs it's pretty difficult to go back to the original dealer for a couple of reasons...

You have effectively accepted the vehicle with a known fault (and presented it elsewhere for repair)
The dealer did not carry out the repair so has little or no responsibility or liability for the work. (If they do not have the facilities they should arrange the repair appropriately and collection should only be made from the trader once carried out so that the condition of the car is not in question at the time of collection).

I am definitely not supporting the Indy here at all, but it would seem that the situation should not have arisen in the first place! You wouldn't walk out of Curry's with a TV that you knew doesn't work with an understanding that they would fix it, so why drive a car away with a known fault?

I tend to agree with Alpinaman... there seems to be too much unknown history for any clear view to be made...
