really fed up :( Help with NCS Expert please?

Recommended Posts

Full of man-flu today and feeling really fed up because I have spent 250 quid on a glorified iPod in car charger (as that's all it does at the moment) :(

I've searched (and searched) the 'net and found some instructions on how to "code" the car for MP3 playback...

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1562077

Problem is that all the screenshots on this link are missing and the program is in German, and I can't figure it all out....

I did manage tofind the FSW_PSW.TRC file in the WORK folder and having opened this there are a couple of MP3 entries:

MP3

nicht_aktiv

MP3_CCC

nicht_aktiv

I've changed the 'nicht_aktiv' on both lines (also tried just the 2nd line) to 'full' but when I try to upload it (the screenshots here would help!) then I seem to get nowhere as the file is changed back to the above (nicht_aktiv).

Sounds like once this is done I'd then need to change the 'vehicle order' whatever that is!

So, please can anybody help to improve my day :-(

Hi

Think the nicht_activ roughly translates to not active. Don't quote me on that, if that helps at all

Try www.bmwcoding.com

Thats where i'm spending a lot of my time at the moment as i learn how to code using NCS expert. There is a thread related to enabling MPs playback although this is in the E6XX section but it should give you some direction i hope:

thanks for that '5SPORT' it was helpful and got me further, my BM Technic software has NCS Expert completely in German (all buttons etc) so that didn't help ;)

I've added +KMP3 to the VO now and changed the MP3 entries in the FSW_PSW from nicht_aktiv to aktiv (also tried full) but no joy at all

I've read back the ECU to check that my changes have been uploaded and they have.

So I've done everything I'm supposed to but still getting message on iDrive of "no recognised media in either drive" (or similar)....

Am I going to have to give up & visit the dealer :?

I've read somewhere that MP3 playback can only be done through the 'head unit' and not the changer. I take it you've tried both?

Sorry don't know much more that this as i've not looked in to this myself, yet...

Yep I tried both the CD and DVD head units and neither will recognise an MP3 disc. The iPhone when plugged in bleeps & shows as charging and going into Music shows "Accessory Connected" so the phone side of things is happy.

But when I select CD in the iDrive it just says..

"no supported and readable audio medium found in either internal drive"

I've also tried with a normal CD in the CD head unit so that I can then access 'CD1 CD2 CD3 CD4 CD5 CD6' ... but pressing on any of those does nothing and the head unit CD continues to play

Really stuck.... :?

Ok I will chime in here and put your mind at rest.

http://www.mediafire...spt7t32iex25d9c put this in NCSEXPER/CFGDAT

http://www.mediafire...sc9hcvn9qt974h9 put this in NCSEXPER/CFGDAT

Every thing will now be in English.

http://www.mediafire...3ra8v8p22swqq6a put this in NCSEXPER/PFL

Start NCS and load the profile I just gave you (Revtors profile).

Select F1 then F3, select E60 when prompted.

Select F2 and put +KMP3 in the small box, select add.

Scroll down your FA list and check that +KMP3 is added then select OK.

Select back to main.

You should now have "process ECU and Process car"

Select process ECU, select CAPPL.

Select change job, select SG_CODIEREN (process coding data in german)

Select execute job.

Done.

Verify that you can now play MP3`s. If not reply and I will show you another more complicated method to enable it.

Just tried to read the ECU and even that produces an error! The error.log is as:

The files I gave you wouldn't produce any errors, the first two files were txt translations and the other was a profile nothing more. Any ideas how old the daten files you have installed with NCS are? could be they are older than your cars software level.

I didn't think it was that but I thought I had read/written before, doubting myself though now & probably going crazy at this point ;)

Judging by the error.log the main file is 'CCC_APP.C04'. I've found that file in the DATEN folder and it has a date/time of 15/03/2006 07:28.

My car is a late 2004 model but has been remapped so it's certainly possible that the s/ware is older than the car..?

Is there a newer app. available for download than I've got from BM Technic on their CD..?

CCC_APP.C04 is for the CCC software applications and has nothing to with the DDE (engine control module) which is where the remap is.

Also CO4 is the very first version of the CCC main apps software which would be around 2003.

Download the files above and copy past them to the following locations.

NCSEXPER/SGDAT all .ipo files.

NCSEXPER/DATEN/E60 all files in DATEN folder. these are the coding files for each ECU.

EDIABAS/ECU all .prg files these are the ECU progan files.

Let me know if this works.

You're a star :) The car is playing MP3s off discs in the dash (top slot) perfectly now with all songs/tracks displayed perfectly :)

The iPod retrofit kit still isn't doing anything though, CD1 CD2 etc dont select. Made sure the phone isnt keylocked but makes no odds.

Is there anything else I need to do? It came with a few leads but it simply connected straight into the car's CD changer multiplug perfectly, so the wiring hasn't been used ... I thought it was plug & play :?

I am wondering if I need the battery off the car and back on? IIRC I had to do this with my E46 when fitting the Connect2 system otherwise the car thought the CD changer had failed, so maybe its the same here.....

Hi, it didnt work. I input +IPOD, clicked Add and could see it in the list, but after pressing OK then F6 for back I get Error COAPI-1000 Fehler!

The log shows...

ERROR! Modul: CVT_PROC.C, ProcNr: 02, LineNr: 10, ErrorNr: 106.

ERROR! Modul: COAPI.CPP, Proc: coapiGetFswPswFromAsw, LineNr: 02, ErrorNr: 1000

I've googled it and it seems to be a general error, not much help. Others seem to get it when a code is input and can't be found by the car. So I guess the 'IPOD' can't be found..... :?

I have the iPod interface and +IPOD in my FA list so it should also work for you, some thing else is not right.
