I've just acquired an Oxford Green '95 530i Touring from Ebay as a replacement for my MOT-failed E39. It is fitted with the T2 alarm which is different from the versions I had/have on my previous E34'S (Alpine??). Specifically the dash mounted LED, which doubles up as a switch on my 540 for toggling the auto-closing facility on/off is just a plain light on the 530 (see pics.) so I don't know if I have this facility or how it works with the T2. If I lock the car on the fob with the window down it remains that way so if anyone can shed light on this I would be grateful! Posted Image

Cheers, Mart.

i had a 520 with the light like in the bottom pic
it had a rectangle grey fob with one button and BMW written on it. dont remember which alarm it was tho but maybe if its the same shape then its the same? that was a facelift car (i might be dreaming this but only the facelift cars had 1 touch windows?)
when i locked it with that the windows went up on their own. tried holding the lock button down to see if that does it like on e39s?
also i never knew that about the 540 light being a switch. im off to check mine now!
damn mine doesnt even have an led! it does have a chrome clicky switch under the asc button tho :D

Cheers Idiot! Yes I've got the rectangular fob (although mines black) & I did try holding it down but no luck.

The light/switch isn't just a 540 thing-I had it on my '93 525 as well! Thinking about it I'm wondering if it's as simple as getting a switch & replacing the straight LED-not sure though as I'm unfamiliar with the T2 set-up................Posted Image

Martin,

by the sounds of it, the 530i does not have a self closing alarm, i.e. one that closes all the windows and sunroof when the alarm is set. I think I am right in saying that BMW did a range of alarms, some with added features such as self closing. So, to get self closing, you probably will have to upgrade the alarm system,

Thanks Geoff.

For some reason I hadn't considered the possiblity that the self-closing is built into the alarm system rather than the car itself. This would also explain the lack of any info about s/c in the owners manual or what the led/switch does (I found out by accident!).

I do still have the control module from my 525 (which had s/c) so, wiring permitting, a retrofit may well be possible! Posted Image

Cheers.

Well all I know is I bought an alarm module off a former iX owner who told me it was the self closing version, haven't yet needed to install it so don't know for certain that it is, but it makes sense to put the self closing circuitry in the alarm!

Is it the AC38 (i think) fob and the 2T alarm? Can't help but if you do retro fit i could do with the sounder casing and a fob!

Thanks Carl, Duncan.

It's definitely the T2 alarm as it says so on the siren. Going to have a closer look today to prove if auto-closing is absent on the T2. If it is then I will probably be pulling it out so the bits you want will be available at some stage!

Thanks mate. I've just found a copy of the original Sigma 2T/3T user manual on the 'net & it states that auto-closure is only available on the 3T model!

Manual closing is still possible via the key lock (I've tried) but I will need to retro-fit a 3G MK1 or upgrade to the 3T if I want it to do it automatically.
