Ok, I'll expand my review a bit:

Corsa and Panda on track - good. I laughed out loud at the fat family.

News - good

Star in car - fast forwarded it. Never heard of him.

Film producers bit - total shit.

Sorry, I'm a big supporter of the show but after the brilliance of the first ep the 'let's play film producers' was pure TG dross. Boring, scripted and totally predictable.

I'd forgotten it was on - luckily I think I sky+'d it so I'll catch it a little later.

Did anyone else get a false sense of hope when they showed the clip hinting at actual reviews at the start of the first episode this season? I don't mind the larking about, but sometimes its good to know about new cars coming out....

Sorry Dave I don't agree. A review of everyday cars (a la old TG) would just be so dull. Watch old TG on You Tube and try not to go to sleep.

I love old Top Gear on YouTube, but that's only because I'll only watch reviews of cars I actually like, wheras with it on TV to start with you don't get any real control.

Anyway, I haven't seen any of this newest series yet, must catch up on iPlayer.

That's fair enough comment however, how do you know whether you are going to like it or not if you dont watch it??

The problem with TG at the moment is the 'watchability' seems to vary from episode to episode (for some people) so unless you tune in you won't know what it was like and can't reasonably comment!

They obviously can't please all of the people all of the time. I'm sure there are people who liked all of it (like myself), people who likes bits of it and people who liked none of it.

If you regularly don't enjoy any of it then don't watch it.

For the people who like only some of it, its worth watching for the bits you will like.

Any that's my long winded observation :)

I actually turned over during the bleedin' Flim Producer bit..! A first?

Otherwise, I reckoned it was pretty good, although (again) I didn't know who the Star-in-car was...
He was funny though & he beat Tom Cruise!

I don't get why people don't like the 'Star' bit...
Granted, it can be a waste of time if the guest is uninteresting, (Like the Peas front-man last week) but most of the time the guests are worth watching.

Usually, when the ideas start to run dry in a show, they change the producer...but they can't on this show because the producer is Andy Willman who is Clarkson's mate from public school !!!! and the writer (script) for the show is written by Clarkson himself. Clarkson and Willman own the company that produces 'Top Gear'. Hammond and May are employees !

The other two don't have any input at all and they are fictitious, made-up characters in all but name. Neither Hammond or May are really like they appear on TV. 'Captain Slow' it not 'slow' in any way in real life and Hammond is not a 'funny man stooge' either. In fact they are both ruthlessly successful, entrepreneurial business men at the very top of their game.

Most of the money top-gear makes is from sales to other TV companies around the world and franchising. It doesn't mater what we think of the show in the UK because we are not the primary audience or 'worth' much in terms of revenue.

So don't expect any changes soon ! I would still rather watch back-to-back repeats of this show than the other dross on the 70 odd channels. 5th gear is a total waste of time, no entertainment value whatsoever, even Vicky has lost her va, va voom !

So what happens to TG if the BBC decide the show has run it's course (poor viewing figures) & drop it from the schedule?

Can we expect to see the next series premiering on a Japanese channel or wherever it's most popular?!

Willman and Clarkson would probably make the show anyway and sell it to other TV companies. The BBC buy the show from their production company already, anyway. They (BBC) probably have an exclusivity agreement to buy the 'rights' and might own the 'top-gear' brand.

I doubt they'd bother though, because then they'd have to market the program to other tv companies, at the moment they don't have to because they are just a 'manufacturer' (of top-gear) with exclusive agents (BBC) selling and marketing the program.

It's like saying 'what would happen if we didn't buy as many BMW's in the UK as last year, or didn't buy any BMW's at all'. BMW would still manufacture the car, they'd just sell them to other buyers.
