My new toy. It needs alot of work but I have seen worse.

Well I purchased this shed from Tims. I didnt even look at it first and just assumed it would need alot of work, which it does

Anyway from a quick inspection the rear panel is carrying alot of rust. The arches have a bit. The wings look knackered. The inner wing has a large scab above the battery bay which I think has gone right through. The battery bay is quite rusty. Laquer peeling all over the place.

But....I put a brand new battery on it and it fired up instantly and run very smoothly although seems very rich judging by the fumes from the back. The exhaust manifold has a slight blow. The cam cover gasket is leaking oil quite badly but the clock says its done 228000 miles. If I had done 228000 miles I would be in worse shape for sure.

Anyway, I will take it for an MOT soon and see what it throws up. If I can get it to pass without throwing a fortune at it then I will drive it while I improve it. If it needs too much I will take it for major surgery.

I would eventually like to convert it to manual. Also, I did want to paint it Estoril Blue but will only do this if the body needs a massive amount of work. Lachsilver with shadowline in the best flavour of E28 ;)

Im off to make plans :D

We had a little poke about today and made some more holes in it. The interior is coming out next week so I can get the piping repaired on the drivers seat and have them spruced up a bit. I will clean the carpets and matts. I am looking for someone to retrim the door cards in black leather.

The rotten wings will be coming off next week. The body kit and the front and rear screens will be coming out too.

A few more pics....

I am planning a full respray, engine rebuild and a manual gearbox conversion.

I may lose the bodykit, aircon and headlamp washers but not sure yet.

I dont think I like the wheels but they may grow on me over time. They are 17" TSW's if anyone wants to make an offer. 2 very good Dunlop tyres and 2 bold continentals. Guess which ones are on the back?

All center caps are present as is the center cap spanner. I can send pictures on request.

I will hopefully have another update next week.

Marty, sorry to nit pick and i know you'll not be bothered, but hangers are what clothes go on, hangars are what aircraft live in! It's my line of work and it amuses me to see it written incorrectly. When the Army moved into the former RAF South Cerney, they painted HANGER 1, HANGER 2 etc on all the hangars in massive letters. Cue much pi$$ taking by the RAF and huge egg on Army's faces!

Back on topic, looks like a very interesting project you've taken on. Good to see another one saved!! Look forward to the updates.

A little update folks.

The back panel is better than expected and just a bit of repairing to do rather than replacing it. The passenger side outer sill has a hole. Floors look good. They will take the drivers side skirt off tomorrow I think. This is where I expect the worst of the rust as the mot shows front jacking point as an advisory 5 years ago. Also the bottom of the wing is very rotten on this side and the skirt is hanging off at the front.

I will get some pics up on Sunday.

Did timS give it the old "to many projects on the go" treatment when he realised the sills and pillars were dead lol.

I was after a M535i in any condition as a project and that is exactly what I got

It is far too good to break. The floors are lovely and the sills are much better than I expected. The engine and gear box run perfectly and I cant believe it has done 228000 miles.

It needs far less than I was expecting so all is good. You should see the 2002Tii I am doing. Look at my other posts.

I am open to offers on the TSW wheels. I am after another set of style 5's really.

More updates soon.....

I like this car, shame about the rust but I think it will look great when it's all done, like the body kit, like how low it looks to sit, interiour looks nice (eve though I don't like leather seats)... I even like the wheels.

Not seen a set of TSW Evo on anything for a long time! where did they all go?

I think they would suit an E34 better IMO. I will sell them if anyone likes them. I am after a set of BBS Split rims. I did have a set but I sold them to Tims

Other people are welding it. Hopefully it will be back to its former glory sometime next year.

I am thinking of leaving the body kit off it when it it rebuilt.

Any opinions would be great.

Thanks

I could go with that, M5 front valnce or an Alpina spoiler with a 'naked' E28 looks very good indeed.
