'99 BMW M5 and '01 BMW 525d Touring

Hi enjoyed your posts and interested in your views at the benefits of the sport suspension. I have the sport tourer and find it a little low as it plays havoc with speed bumps!

That has to be some serious speed bumps. Haven't been hanging on any yet and we've got pretty high ones in the business park, where our office is. Is your suspension on airbags or springs ?

good question and the answer is I dont know. its the 520 sport and I would have thought airbags but i dont know. I am going to get the car serviced in the next couple of weeks and I will ask them then if its at the correct ride height because its a real pain.

Got the Touring remapped today.

Factory should be 161 bhp, 350 Nm.

However, before the remap the car was putting out 183.2 bhp and 285 ftlb (386 Nm), so already overarchieving a bit.

After the remap, the results where 212.1bhp and 365 ftlb (495 Nm).

Unfortunatly torque only peaks at around 2100 rpm and then falls off, unlike the M5, where I've got the torque constant through most of the rpm band. Still, feels less dull now.

Car is looking good, are you sticking with SE bumpers?

I wish mine made 183 hp standard? Has it already had a remap or been tweaked? I bet you cant half notice and extra 40hp.

Good work :)

As for the remap, I do not know, if it ever was remapped before, but I've seen a lot of the diesels overarchieving from factory.

As for the bumpers, I'm not sticking with the bumpers, but all in good time and as budget allows.

I've fit the silver trim, the leather door trims and a piano wood gear knob recently. I'm waiting for my non-oem navi unit and the time to fit the dark msport headliner and going to post pictures then again.

The next step after that will be tint of the rear windows (tailgate, back windows and back doors).

The msport steering wheel i bought was unfortunatly stage 1 airbag, so it doesn't fit in my car. Still on the hunt for another one, but that'll happen and once all that's done, the bumpers come.

Plan for the bumpers is M5 bumper (without the M5 splitter) in the front and Touring Msport rear bumper.

I've stuck the alloys from my M5 on the Touring yesterday. Going to find a set of LM BBS ones for the M5.

The result is stunning:

Picture from a car-meet today. As you can see, the msport headliner isn't in yet. That'll happen mid-week hopefully. Also chasing to get a Houlingan unit for the car. Once I've got that installed, I'll post the finished pictures of the inside.

I haven't been on for a while and am impresseed with your work. I love the wheels on it, they really set the car off well. I'm not keen usually on non stock parts either. I look forward to seeing more of this car as your upgrade continues.

Here comes the next wee bit before I do pictures again. This arrived yesterday:

A Houlingan non-OEM radio-replacement with DVD, bluetooth, nav and all the other goodies. Hope to fit that today and will take new interior pictures then.

A friend of mine had a Mk.4 DVD nav unit flying around, that he gave me this morning. It came from an E46 business setup (so coded for monochrome and streetviews only for the normal MID module navigation).

Ripped my Mk.2 unit and the trimble unit out of the M5. While I was at it also removed the remaining Traffic Master junk from the boot. I had the front panel taken out ages ago.

Before

Installed DVD nav unit

Recoded to color and 16:9 using Navcoder and the Ressler I-Bus module, upgraded to v32 and voila

The outdated menus are now replaced with the latest version. I'm a happy camper so.

The gunk that came out:

My old CD-based Mk.2 nav module, the trimble module and the remainder of the Traffic Master unit, while I was it it. The front panel I had removed last year already as it's a useless piece of c***.

While a lot of work went into the Touring, even the M5 has got some updates.

I fitted the AV-in cabling

255107_10150199151958682_698008681_7290239_326102_n.jpg

And when we visited Frits Performance Garage in Belgium on the way to the Ring in November, I picked up these brackets.

Now, you'd wonder, what they are for ? Well for these lads of course.

401580_10150491553878682_698008681_9075331_1902380578_n.jpg

BMW Performance Brakes for the E90/E92 aka Brembo 6-pot calipers. With the adapted brackets, they fit on the E39 nicely.

Anyhow that and a set new rear shocks, new brakepads all around, some braided brakelines and all that is needed and I should be ready for another season of trackdays.
