AbidK 17 Report post Posted December 1, 2018 Afternoon All Just wondering if anyone can help me? My 2008 model M5 Touring has had the red cog appear and is locked in 1st gear. I have read somewhere that the SMG pump can be repaired and that there is also a BMW repair kit does anyone have any info on this please? thanks
LukeH 52 Report post Posted December 1, 2018 From memory you can buy most pump parts individually rather than replace the whole thing like SMGII. Ideally get some codes from it which might point you in the right direction. I’ve had a couple of thrust bearings fail which can cause all sorts of problems as you can imagine. Did it fail when you were driving or when you went to start it?
AbidK 17 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 Hi Yes it failed whilst out driving, approached some traffic lights and red cog appeared cutting engine off.
LukeH 52 Report post Posted December 3, 2018 Hmm sounds like it was possibly unable to release the clutch as you came to a stop, but that’s pure guess work. See if there are any fault codes and go from there.
Jeff TT 16 Report post Posted December 29, 2018 Worth checking the pump relay, if that fails the pump cannot run and hence no hydraulic pressure to operate the gearbox.
