The Story

I've been wanting/ looking for BH15021 since 2010/11 never really expecting to find her ...    let alone own her...

We had checked with BMW during 2012  and was aware she had done around 240k (2004) last BMW service ...

So expected her to be long gone...

I have a final thank you to Stefan for purchasing my dream and making my dream happen

Pictures to follow tomorrow and the plan of action :)

Congrats Carl B)

I'm SO glad Team Butler ended up with this car...

I'd just like to echo on the part about Made In Wigan very friendly and helpful person thought out the whole process

I can't thank him enough for letting me give Dad his dream car and making the whole process painless.

This is the photo that will always resonate with me the first time for Dad in the driver's seat of his dream car.

This was the view from my bedroom window this morning...

I know its very corny keep referring to an E34 Touring as a " Dream Car " but if we look at the specification and rarity of

the Golden Nugget and just how long Dad has been scanning eBay... Pistonhead and British countryside and seaside towns

when we have been on family outings I think it's just...

I'll miss the echo when getting off the motorway

" Keep ya eyes peeled folks for any Gold Touring while we are down era "

... ...

Got to spend the first full day with the Golden Nugget today the interior is in great condition for the miles and age of the old girl and she drives lovely, when we get the body work level with the mechanical work shes going to be a formidable nugget.

I'll update the blog tomorrow with our plan of action and the goal for the Golden nugget

I still cant believe shes at Butler -HQ

1 of 1 that's a pretty spectacular..... ^_^

A formidable project and I wish Butler HQ all the best with BH15021 B)

Shes widely accepted as the only RHD beige 540i/6T I like the rarity but I like the color more reminds me of our old Silver 540i...

Shes the only touring with factory 25% LSD she also is one of two with cloth interior she also missed the horror ball that is the double sun roof option..

Shes a project... a project I have always wanted to undertake thanks for you wishes mate.

Update

27/10/2018

Its been just over a week since The Golden Nugget has been at Butler-HQ.. And there hasn't been

any real progress but behind the scenes we have been working our socks of to get the Nugget road worthy.

Having her stuck outside Stefan's partners house without being able to move her was torture and no matter how

good your relationship is with your next door neighbor there is only so much you can do.

(Unless Your Outside Butler-HQ)

So we needed to get her road worthy and outside Butler-HQ..

So we booked The Golden Nugget into get her sill end repaired I wouldn't have been happy if it was a permanent fix

But to get her to and from Butler-HQ I was happy plus the whole sills need to be cut away and replaced along with the dog leg's.

We then set about putting the interior back together... Our friend down the road

Donated a steering wheel to Project The Golden Nugget... I find the interior a nice place to

be and makes a nice change from leather and takes me back to my youth..

43770135830_f1f23f7532_o.jpg

For the last two days we have been fixing the rear brake lines we where doing so well that it even

started to snow... Just to make the job sting that little bit extra...

30645691097_ab8b629095_o.jpg

The result is we have a road worthy Golden Nugget.. That we can move around and work on

:D

     M.O.T Advisories

  1. Oil leak ( Differential ) Not Excessive
  2. Brake pipe corroded covered in grease over material
  3. Vehicle structure is corroded but vehicle rigidity is not reduced ( Off Side )
  4. Vehicle structure is corroded but vehicle rigidity is not reduced ( Near Side )
  5. Service brake grabbing slightly (OSR)
  6.  -

She drives very well for a car of her miles the tester asked if the miles where corrected when he first pulled her onto the ramp

As Made In Wigen stated in a post she drives very well but as we all know her body work needs some TLC..

She passed her emissions straight off the bat without any fuss or palaver.. The eagle eyed

will have noticed The Golden Nugget is now sporting Style 18 alloys while we get our spare set of style 17 refurbished

45586860001_57a427b2ea_b.jpg

Next time the weather is dry and we are under the car all get some photos of the rear brake lines..

I also feel the Nankang aren't cutting the ice much on The Golden Nugget

Update

2/11/2018

Well having the Golden nugget in our care for two weeks in the last updated we had just gotten her road worthy and

thought an M.O.T..Sunday was my Birthday and I thought I'd taker her down to the monthly Pistonhead's Sunday Service Meet

This month It was held at Silverstone Race Track I'd been invited to go with my good friend and fellow forum member V8GEE

44910253554_d056f1a6e1_o.jpg

On arrival Gareth had surprised me with a passenger ride around Silverstone track in his E34 540I/6

The track was wet and with Gereth and VAK (540I6) working in harmony it was a great experience.

31814546318_f0e56b328d_o.jpg

The Golden Nugget ate the miles down to Silverstone..The last week I have been thinking about my long-suffering wife with another E34 around the place..

Even if the nugget didn't arrive on a lowlander Me and Stefan have got a little habit... So on the way back The Nugget was driving so nice

and faultless we drove straight past Butler-HQ and up to our Caravan in mid wales for a week away before closing up.

30745787117_45561ba3ed_o.jpg

During the week away we managed to clean the engine bay up a little .. Will need another clean sooner or later but much better.

45686465401_30bc234e0f_o.jpg

More clean..

31814101048_afd7ef2acc_o.jpg

But i realize I must get out my dreaming state and start doing some work this is what we are up against body wise

We are sure there is more lurking under the underside.

Next week all the interior is coming out so we can see how bad the rust is on the floor and inner sills

and see what we are really up against but whatever needs doing will be done.

31814096558_0f003848d6_o.jpg

Over the week we have managed to add 500 miles to the Golden Nuggets high mile statues

and shes managed to never miss a beat and fall right into place at Buter-HQ

even the long-suffering wife admits is nice to have one with a bigger boot

Update

Well folks we didn't wait around to take the carpets out and see what was lurking around the dreaded areas.

Now to the moment I'm sure everyone has been waiting for the big reveal.

After we'd picked around making sure what was what

45666322262_087880da7c_o.jpg

45717108661_9e6d5fcd03_o.jpg

The Verdict

The passenger side is in worst shape than the driver's side at this point but neither were as bad as

The Tea Bag Lady.. But what E34 has been as bad as the old Tea Bag Lady.

Tomorrow will see the removal of the front wings and check the areas hidden we are expecting again that

the passenger side to be worst affected by the rust but we are not fazed by our findings and very motivated

We did cut the carpet as the carpet was wet and had been cut before and we had no way of drying it out

and it just started to rain...

Update

5/11/2018

Today saw the removal of both front wings to inspect the front A posts and inner wings after a lengthly battle

with this little fella and detaching the welded on wing bottoms.

43916057740_b648e06fb2_o.jpg

This is what met us on the removal of the front wings.

45008662554_df93312bbc_o.jpg

31862198048_8806bb51fe_o.jpg

Lets take a closer look around we didn't remove arch linings as we didn't have any spare arch screws which would mean

if we needed to move The Golden Nugget it would contaminate all the arch without the lining so the arch linings are to stay even if one isn't doing much.

 30793604847_3303b45a98_o.jpg

45733713721_72a850ceac_o.jpg

45733712931_8136c80206_o.jpg

45733718961_5b8f82f5f7_o.jpg

31862199518_b487b2f576_o.jpg

Again the same story follows thought into this update the passenger side seems to be the worst side.

30793637997_46756a31eb_o.jpg

45733745351_b9bb59f432_o.jpg

30793611177_140f93e371_o.jpg

We are still very upbeat and positive... there is a difference between an old car and and an abused old car and

even if the old Nugget needs some welding and tender loving care she's in no way an abuses car and the more we look around

the more we can see that someone loved the old Nugget at some stage and she's my dream car and deserves to be brought back to life.

44961834554_2d07e0d090_o.jpg

Tomorrow Ill be getting the trusty wire wheel and grinding stones to see what can be cleaned up and what need to be cut out.

How bad are these at rusting now they are getting old? As to me yours doesn’t look too bad and is just starting to go beyond surface rust in some places so should be easily rectified. It’s something I should do on mine but I’m in the philosophy of I haven’t checked it, I can’t see it and it doesn’t exist!

1994 models tend to rust more then 1995 models from my experience and other people have shadowed my statement saying 1994 E34 likes to rust more then an 1995.. But it could be just the ones I've come across.. Our other manual was very ship like all sorted now and she is a 1994 model.

the rust from coming back we are a huge believer in this stuff the places  where the medal is think we are going to run a

line of panel sealant over the top of the Red Oxide which will neaten everything up then we will paint over the whole end

in Hammerite Hammered Black which will result in a neat job.

When we drop the Fuel tank which is the next on our TO DO list we will go over the Red Oxide

so is a nice and thick skin  also there will be one uniformed coat from the top of the valance to the end of the boot floor.

The rust around the engine bay has been taken care of also... When the Nugget gets painted I might try my hand at spray

painting the inner wings.. If not ill leave and get it done professionally.
