G30/G31 Audio upgrade notes

Recommended Posts

In case anyone is thinking about upgrades/differences to previous 5ers.

The underseat central bass subs are no longer self contained pods - they're actually more like a four sided rigid box with an open base that mates to the floorpan with the help of some non adhesive green squashy gasket material. The same stuff seals the sub to the plastic, does a decent job and makes installation of a new sub easy.

The sub enclosure is also a little larger as result but if you get water sloshing around under the carpet in the floorpan though, its possibly going to fry or soak the subs as they're not as well protected.

Front door speaker mounts have a structural door element directly behind them which severely limits the depth of any replacement 100mm drivers. My Focal IFBMW upgrade kit is definitely too deep so thats going to be up for sale shortly. Door clips are also pretty fragile, two snapped on mine so well worth have spares handy.

Aftermarket amps can cause missing speaker or ground fault codes and sometimes temporary channel muting on the EvoNBT if they dont have a smart high level input. So needs careful partnering if you're upgrading base audio by this route.

The boot floor storage on the g31 is also excellent for installing kit. So easy!

Quite a professional job  but does it not affect the usability of the boot?

Funny man!  An easily removable JL audio box is going in the boot. Obviously the pic is of one of the new Match underseat subs.
