Evening All

I am after some advice on what to do about my car, last Sunday around midnight someone reversed into my drivers side door and proceeded to piss off. I know who the guy was but i have no proof it was him. I confronted him about it and he blatantly lied to my face denying it.

Its a 2007 E60 535D and i love my car.

I am now just looking for advice on what to do next:

Option 1:

I have full protected no claims insurance, its a £250 excess i would have to pay straight away. So do i just go thru the insurance

or

Option 2:

Try to source a 2nd hand door, get it sprayed and fit the door with my mate who is a mechanic

Thanks inadvance

Mark

That's a bummer :( sadly I think I'd suck it up and get a used door and avoid the insurance. Had a car keyed once bit the bullit and  had it repaired but it was a painful £250 to stump up.

A second hand door in the same colour so wouldn't need spraying might do the trick. although I guess no guarantee of the colour match. There are specialist BMW breakers, google it and try them

EDIT: I had the same thing a few years back. A serious dent about that size but in the rear panel. Asda carpark. A note was left on my windscreen so that the perpetrator was seen to be doing the right thing by any onlookers, but it was a false name and number. I elected not do do it on insurance and paid it myself.

Personally I'd go through insurance. I've only once helped someone change a door and it was a hell of a job.

The secondhand door had minor scratches around all the fixing points from where it was removed from the donor car, and we added a small but tasteful selection of our own in swapping doors over.

Swapping the internals was another caper as there were minor differences, and it needed new glass runners too. And this was in the days before airbags and electric mirrors.

The door was incredibly heavy and awkward to deal with, and once fitted it took a degree in patience to get the gaps right and closing properly. Then it needed a respray as the colour mismatch stood out like a sore thumb under streetlighting.

No sirreee....insurance for me.

Do it. It won't be much for a mechanic. Cheapest option for you and avoids affecting your insurance.

I would recommend going through insurance. As its not worth the head ache for £250. Can't see you it doing for much less than by you doing it yourself, also the paint will not 100% match, as realistically the entire side of the car might require respraying to match new paint and you could have it done by BMW, at the expense of the insurer.   You should be able to get a courtesy car while yours is repaired and it may not effect your premiums that much, as you are not fault and its technically vandalism.

Does the owner of the other car have any visible damage, as it still might be worth informing your insurance about who you suspect it might be, as they may have been caught it on CCTV somewhere or they might be able to match the damage on your car to theirs.

Can you not just push it out and repair it for less than £250?

Also wouldnt it be very unfortunate if the bloke that caused the damage got a screw in each of his tyres at a he same time.....

I know its too late but i will be getting CCTV soon, There is no CCTV in the area but i noticed a scuff on his bumper which would of been the side he skelped the door with and i checked two days later and it was away. He was physically shaking and stuttering when i pulled him up, so that alone signifies his guilt to me anyway.

I think i will get a 2nd hand door and see what happens, i know a couple of detailers who might be able to blend it all in

Thanks for all the input

For similar reasons ( wing got dented by a careless Parker) I've got a wing and bonnet from another car of the same colour. Both original paint and though only the bonnet is on the cookout match is spot on

that and some other odds and ends was £100.

Its kit kit just the cost to repair you've got to think of next years ins premium.

I've ordered a replacement second hand door, supposed to be exact same colour and in perfect condition for £110 delivered.

Should arrive midweek, hopefully get it fitted soon as.

I was actually walking down my road last Saturday night quite late on and i saw my neighbour and his brother walking passed my car, they both stopped and looked at the dent then i heard him saying that's the dent there, then he saw me and quickly walked away.

I was speaking to another neighbour and he says he saw him late one night lifting up window wipers and pushing in wing mirrors on other peoples car.

The guy is a loony

I hear  most building sites look for places to dump their waste rubble and what not where it doesn’t cost them much!

They especially like dumping it when it’s requested for free and on people’s drive ways!

Sometime’s if they are asked nicely they will dump it behind the car(s) whilst parked on said driveway ;)
