Sat nav maps

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to update the maps on these hard disc based systems? If so where's the best place to buy? Mine is a 2013 pre lci car with pro nav, but I find it is struggling with a lot of postcodes that it really shouldn't.

If you have an ENET cable and ESYS you can extract an FSC code and generate your own Nav code and the downloads are available. A little involved but it is possible. Or go to BMW and for £69.95 the last time I looked they’ll provide the codes for 2 years of updates and the maps to download.

Doesnt these send the iDrive into meltdown? Or am I confusing this with something else?

I updated my motion maps earlier in the year using a download and a lifetime FSC code form this site.

It's still working, but that is just my experience I don't know if others forum users have had problems.

There have been issues with updating to 2018-1 maps on NBT systems. The issue is with the firmware level of the headunit and the 2018 maps. This is probably not related to the site but the combination of 2018 maps and earlier levels of firmware.

Is it worth the risk do you think? £30 for the update seems extremely reasonable but not at the risk of dealing with BMWs warranty department...

That's a difficult one. I have CIC not NBT and am running 2018_1 just fine. Some with NBT have had issues and others not but I don't think anyone has identified which firmware could cause issues and which not. See if BMW are still selling Nav updates for £69.95 then is there is an issue they'll fix it for you as they are the ones selling the update.

I think 2014 was the last stable map for stock firmware, I had my car updated before I put the 2018 map on my cic.

Not true, I've updated many F10/F11s up to 2018_1 on CIC and 2017_2 on NBT and have never had any instability issues and my car has 2012 firmware.

Which nav would I have in a 2013?

Think buying it from bmw sounds the best option, £70ish for 2 years doesn't sound bad value either surprisingly.

You'll have NBT (assuming you have Pro Nav option 609) which uses Europe NEXT maps.

I have started generating my own codes now, might be worth looking into?

Nope - they don't!

They tried to tell me my whole head unit needed replacing at over £1000.

Fortunately, I have a BMW specialist very near by who sorted it for a few hundred.

Still trying to get my money back from BMW. This has been going on since Feb.
