They are the same. Facelift and pre-facelift are different.

If we are talking about E39 2003 these late model headlight have permanent glue and the cover can't be removed with typical heat treatment.

But in both cases youcan replace them without opening or baking the headlights.

Looks like you just cut a piece out of the top so you can get in

No...

Where your headlight bulbs are, you use those after you removed the bulb holder and the rubber boots to get to the adjusters...takes a bit of finess but very doable, i did 3 headlights that way

There is a vid on you tube where it's tackled through the bulb openings.

I did it swore a whole lot and wanted to stamp on them and set fire to the wreckage but managed it.

Make sure you make a note of the euro levers that are accessed through the top caps to which way they are pointing.

Do you need to take the headlights out or can you do them in situ

No mate you need to remove the headlights, 4 bolts and they are out.

They adjusters are a pain but if you have small hands you ll manage fine

As i found out guys & gals, there is a secret to replacing the headlight adjusters that none of the YouTube vid`s show, cause they are all from the good old US of A, when changing the inner adjuster, you will find that once you feed the adjuster in, it feels like it`s hitting a spring, BUT, its actually hitting the Euro adjuster lever, If you remove the twist cap from the top of the headlight, you can move the lever out of the way & this also allows you to then work the adjuster into place using 2 hands/4 fingers, the first one took me 6hrs of shouting & swearing, the second took just 2hrs of shouting & swearing, cause it`s still a major ball ache to do.

I really hope this extra info helps anyone else in the future.

These times are not for removing & refitting the headlamps.

This is why I bought new ones at £220 each off eBay Germany (genuine Hella) and retrofitted the xenons to them

Sold the OEM ones for £100 each; so a lot of hassle saved ;) More so as I've shovel like hands!
