Loadmaster 587 Report post Posted August 5, 2018 Looks like a superb example. High miles but a fair price all the same. GLWTS
inkiboo 305 Report post Posted August 5, 2018 You've got me missing my old LMB one! Good luck with the sale, looks a corker.

GLWTS That's the thing, it's been looked after and has worn it's miles really well. To my eyes the car is a bargain, I should think it would give some of the silly priced 'low mileage' dealer cars a run for their money. I am biased of course though! It's a cliché but it is a really reluctant sale, i won't be steering anything as interesting for a year or two that's for sure. When I look at prices in 5 years I'll be even more gutted but needs must, 2 growing kids and a never-ending house remodel mean it has to go
Essex boy 41 Report post Posted August 5, 2018 (edited) That is stunning. With the work you've had done and it has been cared for it shouldn't hang around long. Is there no way you can keep it? I ask because selling my lmb was the worst thing I ever done. If you need the money as life can do that to you then it makes sense to move it on, if you can afford to store it then based on my experience id keep it. It's strange how I became so attached to mine, there is nothing that compares to it in my eyes......7 years of not owning one and then 4 months searching for the right one I am now back in a stunning e39 m5. I had a few audi's they are ok but I never felt as safe as in the m, even though they were quattro's …...I certainly never got that grin on my face that the m puts there instantly Edited August 5, 2018 by Essex boy
Vee 105 Report post Posted August 5, 2018 You are right Essex boy, the E39 M5 really is the last of it's breed. The game has moved on with horsepower but the 'driver aids' and efficient engines have no interest for me, there's only so much of it that you can turn off. I need the cash out of the car to buy another family car in the same price bracket though - it'll be an estate, probably German (nowadays at least) and maybe just quick enough not to completely hack me off. I'm not overly enthusiastic but that's just how it is, hopefully it won't be too long before I can indulge in something interesting again! Those 996 911's are starting to look interesting..... Essex boy 41 Report post Posted August 5, 2018 I agree vee, the driver aids don’t interest me which is why I won’t bring any retrofit to my head unit etc. I think the e39 has enough horses to still scare most people although a v10 would leave it for dust I’m content with 400 horses you could always turn yours into Lpg just kidding. A 911 does sound interesting and will put smile on your chops!!
d_a_n1979 1,603 Report post Posted August 6, 2018 (edited) It really is a lovely motor that... Cannot believe its 17 years old; it's condition belies its age Best colour too (I'm biased) Edited August 9, 2018 by d_a_n1979 1 Vee reacted to this

Vee 105 Report post Posted August 13, 2018 So after having little interest apart from the time wasting pondlife that hang around ebay I've decided reluctantly to lower the price. This doesn't really leave any room for bartering after someone has kicked the tyres but at this price it has to be the E39 M5 bargain of the year. The car is lovely, worth much more than the price it's advertised for I believe - I just need it gone in the next week or two.
d_a_n1979 1,603 Report post Posted August 13, 2018 Get it on eBay auction and I'm sure of us can 'chip in' with bids to keep it going in the right direction 1 Vee reacted to this

Although sadly I had to turn down px's of an E46 M3 and 911 due to reasons of practicality! I haven't even had a viewing yet...... 1 d_a_n1979 reacted to this

Yeah; eBay has it's uses for exposure; but it is full of cocknockers too unfortunately... That's why I think their classified ads are a good idea; the price is set and it just goes from there Have you covered your bases with Gumtree and PH too? Personally I think Autotrader is bloody expensive, but it does have good coverage as well? Yours is a niche car; so it gets a different kind of exposure IMO

The only thing I've ever wanted to do to it is fit a decent stainless cat-back exhaust but could never justify the cost. Muffler deletes can be ok but need to be done properly and every one I've heard just sounded a bit, well, cheap. I'm not a shouty exhaust type but think the standard one is too restrained - well actually the car's sound proofing is probably too good to be fair, but I'd like to enjoy the exhaust note as well as everybody else!! I think the power is perfect to be able to enjoy most of, most of the time. As a standard (big) car it ticks all the boxes, to my mind.
