THE NEW PROJECT... NOT A 5! - 2006 E65 730D

Recommended Posts

Great colour for a 7er.  Most seem to be black or grey.

Shame you didn't get the V8 though  ;)

I wanted a 750i; not many around and those that are had a few issues

Plus the horror stories re the valve oil seals and the overall bill just put me off!

It just ticked over 100k yesterday on my way home from Stourbridge :)

It's got:

Heated seats + memory control

Heated steering wheel

Full soft close doors and electronic, soft-close boot

Folding wing mirrors

Adaptive xenons

Sport suspension

20" Style 149 alloys

Integrated Bluetooth )no AUX in though, so will work around that)

x6 CD changer (no idea what CDs are)

Rear DVD/entertainment system + DVD changer & TV

Fully digital freeview TV front & rear

Sat nav (clunky, at best)

Logic 7 stereo and sub system

So all in, quite a good spec

That seems like an Individual colour? Quite rare blue.

Not a big fan of E65/E66, but the LCI model definitely looks better than the pre-facelift, and those wheels are probably one of the best for this 7 :)

All the best with the project.

So what's the plan Dan?  :D

Well...

Get the airbag light sorted, think it’s the passenger side tensioner, but will get codes read soon enough

Alloys fully refurbed & new tyres (probably going to go either silver with sparkle lacquer, or gunmetal/anthracite with sparkle lacquer)

Have the suspension & underneath checked over at my pals and fix/replace anything that needs doing

And then a trip to see @Mashed Potatoes for him to work his magic re swirl flaps et al & probably a remap thereafter ;)

Great colour I have to say. What BHP can be achieved after a remap? Are planning to service the gearbox as well?

Gearbox and sump were done late 2016; so they're fine. Another reason why I bought it!

Great find then:)

Yeah; I spent 2 weeks looking at various cars

Really liked the look of a Business Edition E61 530d that was fairly local; but the interior just looked cheap and dull (black on black) and the whole front end needed a respray, so that put me off. That and the vertical handbrake, which they said was normal... Yeah; ok!

I've pissed quite a few dealers off over the last fortnight  They never really argued back though :P

How would you compare it to the E39? Is it quite nippy or it feels like a sofa on the wheels?

Different kettle of fish

My E39 was very well fettled, so it handled very well and the build quality was good, hell of a lot better than the E60 IMO

But the E65 7 is the next step up for build; it's just so well put together!

Re the drive, it pulls like a train, but doesn't have the handling characteristics of the E39. But that was on coilovers and very well dialled in, for OEM vs OEM, I'd say the E65 handles itself very well indeed. I certainly wouldn't push it into bends like I did with the E39 though, but it'll be fine taking them at speed...

Looks great Dan - as others have said, great colour combo and the wheels really suit it.

UK plates? Front one, the characters look small....

That's because it's a DIY special paper plate

The original one had been snapped (hosepipe accident) and kept falling off and didn't want to resort to gorilla tape; new ones arrive tomorrow ;)
