F11 Speaker Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I have an F10 without mirror mounted tweeters, and I've been following this thread as I would also like to improve the sound from the stereo. Does anyone know the part numbers for the mirror rear covers that have the tweeter mounts moulded in as that looks to be the simplest way of upgrading with the Focal kit?

I take it that these covers would only be available from BMW....

Are you installing yourself Sam? Would be interested to see how it goes. Particularly do all the connectors plug and play with BMWs connectors.

Yes i will be doing it myself the speakers only. I have taken the door cards off before thanks to the Bav sound guy youtube video (see below)  on how to do a stage one upgrade.

To add some speakers to the topic for future reference.  I have used the company Jehnert before for a previous vehicle.   I was really happy with the result as my car at the time (Mercedes SL) would only accept slim line speakers.   They do need an amp to power them however so not really suitable just to plug and play if you are on the basic hifi system.

Think you started a run on those speakers Sam, 4 sets last night, just ordered the last ones this morning!

Got an email from Eton last night i asked their technical department  a question about an amp

I am looking to Purchase plug and play solution for my BMW F11.
I would like to purchase
B100T
B100N
B100X

Will My OEM unit be able to power these speakers or do i need an Amp.

Many thanks,

Hi Sam,

Yes your original System could drive this, but its mandatory to use the B100XHP bevore each midrange to protect them from low frequencys.

If you use an amplifier with an active crossover, you didn’t need the B100XHP and you will get better performance

Regards

Dominic

So now i have ordered this B100XHP in addition to the speakers

A simple bass blocker will suffice to add in before the mids in the door, I did this and can be had for about 5 quid, it stops them distorting at higher volumes

Cool, look forward to the install.

Are you going to fit some Dynmat on the rear of the door card?

No dynmat. I will do a simple switch over and then see how it sounds. Im just a regular geezer who wants nice sounding speakers. I'm, not a purist when it comes to sounds etc where everything must be perfect and quiet so a bee's fart can be heard in the song. Im just looking for a cheap and easy upgrade.

So you're not like this guy then?

 thats must have cost a few pennies to have that done.  looking at his website he also does window armouring (he spelt it "armoring", poor yank can't spell), just in case anyone is afraid of getting shot in a drive-by. Or is it that armoured windows keep even more DB's out

This came in the post yesterday. Looks like this weekend I should hopefully get these installed

I always loved unpacking new in car entertainment. Good luck with the installation and to echo @Dakota, let us know how you get on.

I fitted the speakers today in between the football. It took me around 20 mins per side to do. definitely look at youtube bav speaker video, it will help a great deal.  All you need is plastic trim removal tool, 8mm socket and a torx screw (cant remember what size)

The power anti bass thingy i plugged in and then placed it in the space under the speaker.

The only issue you guys will have which is fiddly is the part where the tweeter fits back on but watch the bav video and he explains it well. Thanks to the Bav guy, i saved the money on installation and its a very easy thing to do. I must stress buy some cheap plastic trim removal tools off ebay.  Here are the pics below, i must say speakers are a major upgrade so much more clearer and bassier even though i don't have an amp. So the front speakers all in it cost me £217  (170 Euros for Eton speakers pack which comes with all wires etc) and £60 for the 2 anti bass things. But if you have an amp then you don't need it. I thought it was well worth it.  Any questions please feel free to ask

Once you have fit everything back then just make sure the tweeter cover is flush. i had to slightly tuck the rubber in with the trim tool i did this see below
