G30 530e - Driving in Europe

Recommended Posts

I'm taking the car on a European tour soon, well, just France and may be Spain actually.

I have the normal LED lights.

Does anyone know what, if anything, needs to be done to the headlights for driving abroad ?

In F10’s with Xenons there’s an adjustment in the iDrive for driving on the right.

I know there is on my G30 but it’s got the Icon Adaptive lights.

Im sure there will be on yours as well.

FWIW this from the manual:

As above, best thing is that if you have Icons, they still adapt in EU. Still find them amazing after a year haha

Nothing.  They adapt as far as I know.  :)

Have you been to Europe in the car before?

I had driven the F10 a few times but this will be the first time with the G30.

I got conflicting info so never did anything with the F10 lights.

When driving at night, I can see a definite difference in the way my normal LED lights light up the left and right hand side of the road, so I'm sure I need to do something....

I wouldn’t even bother altering anything!

Ive been to the frog eating surrender monkeys country a couple of times in my e91 and other than being drunk, ;) I didn’t do anything to the car! It really pisses the locals off when you’re  in a town/city when you dazzle them!

But you’re  getting dazzled as well so all’s fair in war an peace.....

;)

Going to St Emilion next month with parents in law - wine purchases will be strictly limited unfortunately!

Not far from us then......we are off to Biarritz.

With the 530e boot you will be lucky to bring back one bottle......

I can't figure out if it's worth taking the charging cables.....

Any thoughts anyone ?

I will take my public charging cable and use MObiVE and Plugsurfing where available.

As far as 230v charging I have cobbled together an adaptor from 2 caravan leads to use in European plug sockets at our Gite.

Read this forum post but mainly that by “Jools” someway down.:

Thanks of this info.

I've downloaded and checked the MobiVE app.

Looks good and just what I was after.

Bit like the UK's Zap-Map.

I've also checked the Plugsurfing one.

Doesn't seem to me to be worth the price.

Not so much the €10 for the fob, but paying a connection charge and then charge per minute or per KW.

One of them I checked was €0.79 connection +€0.29 per minute.

The 530e takes about 2 1/2 hours to charge, so total cost will be 150 minutes x 0.29 + 0.79 = €44.29.....!!

Also thanks for the info on adaptors.

I opted for one of these........not cheap, but compact and versatile, as well as being 16 Amp rated.

Sorry also understand that charging can be free at Auchan stores (using my public charging cable).

Thanks.

That's good to know.

With this info and the MObiVE app, I will definitely be taking the charging cable.
