Coming Soon for E39 owners

Recommended Posts

Hi,

A final aspect of things is being worked on with a contract supplier and hoping to finalize that in the next week or so. Once that's in place I'll make that announcement with all details, specifications, pricing and availability :)

Hi,

Apologies for not updating recently.

The specialist I've been working with mentioned that a number of larger orders have recently come in and my potential custom would need to be postponed for 2/3 months. The last 3/4 weeks I've been with another and having to repeat some aspects, so hoping to sign off asap with them.

Just a little bit longer and I'll announce full details to you all :)

Cheers, Dennis!

Hi,

Thanks for the bump Loadmaster!

I've been in good talks and meetings with the supplier I'm now working with to cover exactly what I need. I'm booked in for another meeting early next week to hopefully sign off and then have the tooling made for what I need. As soon as I do sign off, I will update here with full details etc.

The delay over the last couple months or so I could have done without, but sometimes it's aspects beyond my control. Thankfully, the supplier I'm working with now is much better!

Apologies for this unforeseen delay, it's a small tool I need to help with the final manufacturing process and the time required for full assembly. I took a decision to enhance now rather than have a potential assembly issue later. Just a short while longer everyone!

@DennisCooper

When will this be ready Dennis? I need to finish fitting my interior but can't until I install the headunit. I've bought 3 different fascias and none of them seem to work on a shallow depth headunit.

I've just bought an autoleads DFP-06-00 fascia and that doesn't seem to be much use either. I need one of these in my life.

Hi Stu,

I'm going to be calling the engineering company each day this week to prod them into completing what I want as soon as possible. Apologies that it's taking them too long, all I can do is keep at them !

Part of the reason I wanted to create my solution was due to all the other existing solutions just not being anywhere good enough and what E39 owners actually wanted !

Hi,

Update as promised!

Machining of my project is beginning over the next couple days and then it's a case of testing and once it's found all is good there, it'll need a final procedure which is sub contracted and has a 3 day turnaround. Light at the end of the tunnel on this specific aspect and I'm much happier after talking to them over the last 2 days.

Will update once more as the above happens.

Cheers, Dennis!

Hi Duncan et al,

I wanted to get ALL details, information and pricing a few weeks after I initially posted - that way, it'd have been a 'relatively' quick move for everyone here. I was scuppered in that plan by being let down by one engineering firm completely and the current one taking longer than discussed. Once I have this tool I need, I will be able to implement a much faster order to delivery time for customers. I'm making these in specific managed batches for various workflow/space/timing reasons. No point in taking orders and having customer's wait too long!

I know price is important, so of course, that'll be included when I announce orders can be taken and fulfilled for prompt delivery.

Apologies for the delay, it's beyond my control and highly frustrating - the company I'm partnering with here is WELL aware of that frustration.

Cheers, Dennis!

Thanks for the update Dennis.

Once you have a price and are ready to make the parts let me know and I'll put my name down for one. I am watching a double DIN fascia on eBay - but would rather wait if the timing isn't going to be too long.

I'm late to this party I know, but man, that looks ideal. Hate the blank space of pretty much every other double DIN surround I've seen, this is a winner though.

Taking the manufacturing setbacks into account, are we looking at weeks or months before news / availability? I'm looking to get shot of the ugly fascia and double DIN unit which came with my latest E39 ASAP, so if these are too far off, I may have to bite the bullet and tale my chances with some Russian roulette reliability but OEM  looking Chinese unit.

Hi all,

Thanks Stu & Pzero! (Welcome to the forum Pzero! - Looking at your occupation there, 99.999 is etched into my brain cell!)  More discussions on the phone as the machining was done today! I'm meeting the project manager tomorrow morning to run some tests/test pieces via the new tool. I will discuss, evaluate and make a decision if it will need hardening or not. If it does, it's that 3 day turnaround time once it's booked in at another specialist to do. Thankfully, this is done on a weekly batch basis and I'll have it sent on the next scheduled run.

So, it's looking like a few days more if it turns out I don't require the hardening process to another couple weeks max if I do!  I'll update tomorrow evening :)

In the entire development process, from concept to now, this aspect has had the longest delay of work being done which has been extremely annoying as everything else is 100% ready. I'm glad now that it's just a few days more and I'll be able to announce it's availability to everyone :)

Cheers, Dennis!

Hi all,

Good meeting today and I'm very happy indeed. A few minor tweaks are needed which can be done easily and quickly. I'm definitely having the tool go for the hardening process as well - it just makes sense in terms of being as robust as possible.

Counting down - 5,4,3,2,1....

Cheers, Dennis!

Sounds good Dennis. Can't wait for these to go into production, my car is sat in my garage looking sorry for itself with half the dashboard missing.

Once I have this part the headunit can be fitted and interior finished off.

Hi R44M BM,

I think you're slightly misunderstanding my solution !

I've developed a fascia/fitting kit to install a double DIN head unit and designed it to provide an OEM aesthetic that many E39 owners would like when putting in a double DIN unit.

If you wish to keep the M audio setup speakers/sub then you'll need to retain most or all of the OEM modules and you'll not need my solution.

I'll be providing all technical details in a thread I'll be creating over the next few days/week or so :)

Cheers, Dennis!

Dennis, noting your earlier comments regarding being able to fit a mechless head unit in this without the usual airbox alterations, are you able to confirm maximum depth of a head unit to still be able to fit flush (as shown in your pics in this thread so far), without needing to cut the box?  Looking at a Kenwood unit, listed as 75mm deep, although this presumably is the body only, a small amount of clearance would be needed at the top rear for cables exiting.

Thanks in advance!

@Pzero I think 5inches/15cm is the maximum depth for a mech less double din unit.

The Alpine ILX-702E46 is a double din screen (7inch) but the main hardware is housed in a single din chassis off the bottom of the screen in an 'L' shape.

Cheers

Deepan

Aha, so the 75mm listed (I presume you meant 75mm rather than 15mm if 5 inches is correct) is pretty much the depth to expect anyway, thanks.

Looking at the DMX7018DABS, which is shallow and flat, no protruding body. There will however be  a little extra space needed behind for the plugs / fixed cables.
