Hi All,

I picked up a 64 plate 530d today and the dealer who I bought it off said that all the services are logged onto the BMW system.  My question around this is, does this mean that only official BMW dealers can service my car or can independent BMW specialists still carry out the service, assuming they have relevant kit to write to BMW system of course?

Thanks in advance.

Indys can service and write into the idrive but i dont believe this goes on the central bmw database.

Its not foolproof either, mine has a service carried out 3 months after i bought it by a dealer in Germany!!

As long as you keep your receipts for the work and it's carried out in line with the schedule using OEM or equivalent parts by a VAT registered garage (iirc, but I may have dreamt that) it's fine.

Google european block exemption.

I have the Mondial (BMW) comp warranty and this is from my policy:

What must I do to keep the Warranty valid?

The terms and conditions of the warranty listed below must be adhered to. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of a claim or the termination of your BMW Insured Warranty. This does not affect your statutory rights. 1. a) Care of the Vehicle - You must keep Your Vehicle in an efficient and road worthy condition and regularly service it in accordance with the Manufacturer’s recommendations and genuine parts, or parts of equivalent specification must be used.  After each service, please ensure that the relevant service details are completed in your service records by the servicing garage and obtain a receipt for the service. You must keep all such receipts for reference in the event of a claim.

My indi is linked up to the Bmw database and puts the service history onto there it does cost him to do so mind you so it’s put into the costs of servicing etc.

Apart from the very first service which was carried by BMW which they recorded on the idrive, since then I just keep all my receipts for my service sundries etc and record the mileage and date when I carried the service work, my own slight problem very often the receipts wont be just for the our 520d they sometime include service parts for our mini cooper d 1.6 which use the same, ie oil & filter, LV brake fluid etc, for me its just cheaper to purchase some service sundries together for both cars at the same time.
