EML came on grrr

so i have been doing around 1k miles a week for the past 8 weeks, the car has been faultless for the past 2.5 years, there was no loss of power.  Luckily i happend to have a code reader in the boot and that produced code "P046c", looking that up came up the below post




pretty handy with a spanner, so my plan was to take off the EGR valveand either


De-coke (the old fashioned way rather than with sprays)

Block off with a solid gasket - (unsure if this will produce EML also)


So next question, does the code seem right & anyone have a how to? quick googling suggests that the EGR is water cooled?
