Throw your car away! 

 

The camshaft pulley wheel decided to fail on Friday! The rubber had split so the thing just fell to bits! 

Got a replacement on Saturday and after 3 afternoons work on it, 3 strong arm bars and a 6ft scaffold pole later it's been changed! What a complete TWAT of a job!!!! 

Its straight forward IF you can loosen the single 22mm bolt holding it together! 

Although on newer models it looks like the pulley wheel is held on with 4 smaller bolts....

 

fucking BMW's!!!!

 Karl- we had a tengtools high impact air gun rated to 500nm that gets used for building race trucks an that didn't even touch it!

Had this problem on an old Capri 3.0, stuck a socket on a heavy-duty pry bar and braced it against the chassis rail, then a quick flick of the starter get it sorted!

 

Mind you, make sure everyone stays well away from the engine bay as if it goes Pete Tong it could be VERY unpleasant!

Tried that! Didn't work! Also with it being an auto it made a difficult job almost impossible!

If it's not a daft question, what is the correct torque setting for that 22mm bolt?

Fucking tight! :lol: 

on the new pulley it said 100nm +75deg +75deg

ive been told it was 450nm 600nm 280nm and so on!

To be safe I'd go for a Mk1 Golf @ 10 feet.
