F11 air suspension sag overnight ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I'm hoping someone can help. Picked up my 61 F11 on Saturday. All great and lovely to drive but I've noticed that in the mornings the rear end has dropped so the wheels are in the arches. Not sure if this is normal/levelling on a slightly inclined drive or that something is not right. Don't remember this happening on my previous one. Up comes back up when started and drives fine. The NSR airbag was replaced a month ago.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You've got a leak from your OSR air spring.  Or somewhere else in the air lines.  Assuming the NSR air spring is still o.k.

Thanks for the reply.

Is their a way to test the OSR air bag or NSR spring ?

Do you have a warranty, I got the extended BMW warranty with my f11, I had the left side air bag replaced last year as that's the side that normally fails but recently I have noticed the same problem where the rear end has dropped but go,s up within 30 secs after starting the car.

Going to get it booked in as that's covered under the warranty.

If you have just bought it from BMW via AUC then it will definitely be covered by a warranty.

Check the small print from whoever you bought it from for any details about what is covered by their warranties.  Not all warranties cover every part of the car unfortunately.

But because its common its relatively cheap to fix as dealers and specialists have done lots of them now even if not covered.

Sadly no extended warranty. Like yours, mine inflates with min 30 seconds and stays up for hours after it's switched off. The guy I bought it off had the valve checked and the dealer advised it was the NSR bag. I guess the OSR has a small leak now.

I think I'll keep an eye on it and try to confirm it's the airbag then buy one and replace it myself. £170 and an hours work v £450+ for dealer repair.

As above (and PM'd) sadly a very common fault, on the plus side a relatively cheap and deffo DIY possible fix.

A colleague's was changed quite a while ago, mine in March with this type, people will no doubt bang the OEM drum but the quality of this felt great for the cost, bearing in mind it's the OEM ones that go tits up too so not the quality, more the design imo.

I'd also add this is rarely an overnight thing and although it's hard to get recompense from a private sale perhaps a friendly phone call may chip at their conscience and they may help with the cost.
