Hudson's E39 Touring (again!).

Hi guys!

I've been a member for a while now and previously owned an e39 530D touring...

I sold the car in 2015 as I didnt think i needed it anymore, but regretted it since haha! Fast forward to March, after lots of random cars such as Mk2 Golfs, lowered pickup-trucks and a dirty Skoda, I have an E39 again!

Again, its a 530D touring but this time an auto. I always missed my previous car and couldnt forget how great it was all-round, the only thing I didnt like was the colour, the whole time I owned that car I wish i held out for a black one!

After looking for a few days this one cropped up and I was keen straight away, good bodywork, rot free, well maintained for 120k miles and for a good price. (which I ended up knocking off a decent amount!). I really wanted a Sport Touring but couldnt really stretch that far budget-wise, nor find many black ones. There was a really nice Estoril Blue car that I contemplated but it was twice the amount I got this car for!

I know some might frown and some might have done so themselves, but I just planned to eventually pick up the sport bumpers and other bits along the way as and when they came up, to turn the SE into a Sport lookalike. Im all for factory standard parts but wasnt too fussed about having an SE base to begin with.

This is it after I got it home:

After owning the car for a month my friend made me an offer I couldnt refuse on his 530i Touring M-Sport, needing to sell the car and for a very fair price, I decided to buy it off him and transfer all the goodies on to mine!

I started off by doing a few small jobs, such as aftermarket LED tail lights that came on the donor car and some fresh numberplates

And treadplates

The car came with Sport wheels and also coilovers on the front, so I transferred those and lowered the rear of the car on INPA to suit the lowered front end of the car. Im pretty sure its a touch lower than stock sport suspension now:

I wanted to test-fit the sport bumpers before getting them painted, to make sure everything fitted up OK and if I needed any new mounting hardware, clips or bolts etc so went ahead and did that, along with black door trims:

Next up was the shadowline exterior trim which was fun!

Then the interior. The donor car came with half Alcantara stuff, aswell as a sliding boot floor. So over the easter weekend I attacked it! :

I changed

Boot interior

Headliner

Pillar trims

Carpet

Seats

Doorcards

Centre console

Head unit

Lower dash pads

Much better!

I started to refresh the Xenon's that came on the donor car, after a quick flat down and polish the came up good. I'll be splitting them to install CCFL angel's soon, then a little more work on the lenses to get them perfect.

Next up is to wait for a Hamman front bumper lip to arrive before removing the bumpers for paint! Enjoying it all so far ;)

Thats all looking good.

Are you 'swapping' the stuff over so it's still 2 usable cars and sell t'ther one?

That's hell of a build and hell of a lot of work to swap the interior out over the weekend!

Great job :D

Yeah thats the plan! The 530i is in generally good condition with lots of MOT left, so the plan is to convert all the other parts on and sell the car complete.

Cheers! I build Rolls Royce's for work at the moment so my easter weekend was really a busman's holiday to be honest! E39's are actually built so well and luckily everything came apart and went back together perfectly, so it was really worth the effort in the end!
