2002 530i - Sapphire Metallic Black / sand beige interior (making it my own)

Recommended Posts

No; left them with my pal at the bodyshop as he was just flatting/polishing the front bumper, ready to be refitted and we were out for a meal tonight.

Will collect tomorrow, so will get some pics up ASAP (if it's not lashing down as per the forecast)

That drivers seat !!

Cheers, Dennis!

Yup; that's the next job to do, but will probably leave until the New Year when I do the suspension refresh etc

I can't see it when I'm sat on it

Rear upper-rear arms fitted (bastards to get off, both had to be cut in the end and they we're the original factory ones as far as we could tell with BMW stamping etc)

Front tie-rods and inner knuckles changed too; just need to get the steering wheel straight again, that's tomorrows job as needed to come home to let the wife in as she snapped the door key

Finally washed and cleaned to my standards ;)

Washed, dried, gently polished, all trim (as best as I could managed) restored with Megs 'Ultimate Protectant Plastics Restorer', alloys dried and waxed with Smartwax 'Rim Wax', tyres blackened with Megs 'Endurance High Gloss Tyre Gel' 8)

It's fairly overcast and dark here; sop pics are as good as they'll get off my Nexus 6P

Well that answers the pillow ball question from the 'what ya done' thread.

Also I think I need spacers...make any difference to handling etc??

Looks lovely btw

next question.

WhyD2's?? Why not BC, AP, KW??

Ok I lied next question 2.

Which spacers are you using?

KW aren't all that (you pay for the name more than anything else). Having used them before, I wouldn't go back to them.

BC and D2s are more or less the same, but can get the D2s locally and from a company I've known for years etc. I've had D2 coilovers on more or less every Honda I owned since 2002 as well! Know them very well

AP are ok for top end budget (made by the KW company), but only have height adjustability. By the time you've bought top mounts etc, you're more or less at same price as the coilovers and I'd rather pay that bit more for the full height & damping adjustment.

Re spacers, I'm just using 5mm hubcentric shims currently, will look into spacers (prob 10mm H&R spacers) when the D2s are fitted. But as my alloys are already ET20 it may be 5mm is enough once lowered

I won't be going too low (a few large speed bumps local to me and a huge one at the gym I train at) etc!

Car had been back to the body shop yesterday; he wasn't happy with how the lacquer had settled on the front-end respray; so he's flatted it off again and polished it to a gleaming finish 8)

I'm really happy with the bodywork now; it's not perfect, never will be, it's a 15 year old car! But, it looks massively cleaner now and the panels all feel like glass (bar the roof

I need to 3M refurb the OS headlight, you can see in the pics the difference between that one (original) and the replaced OEM Hella headlight on the NS (was replaced a month before I bought the car). Will get on to that in the next day or so as weather looks to be fine for a few days :)

Cheers @Hairyarse

Refurbed the headlight this morning; took 2 passes with the 3M kit!

Looks a lot better, but still doesn't have the clarity of the NS headlight  Might look to replace it come the New Year, as the difference in them is already pissing about with my OCD

82mm stud conversion kit ordered:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371575433483

Will probably get some nicer looking wheel nuts such as Ultralite ones from SPD Automotive (where I got my coilovers from) such as these:
