My third E39! :)

Result!! The cooler arrived today and it's identical to the ATF cooler that came off. £85 well spent and hopefully I can get it fitted Saturday B)

Well it was a month yesterday since I machine polished my 39, on which day the gearbox oil cooler decided to empty its contents on the floor!

Having struggled to find a new cooler I'm now all sorted. £85 for the cooler, filter I was supplied was the wrong one so ended up at ECP yesterday afternoon in desperation as I had vowed never to use them again. After three attempts they gave me the right one

Aside from a little sludge the oil pan was clean, no metal filings which was good news.

So now I have a new cooler, filter, fresh fluid and new coolant - and an E39 outside my house for the first time in a month.

It's just a shame it needs cleaning again 0fb6a016bc82f83a7e7bfafbe2d888fc.jpg

Thanks Mick. It is looking nice. I just wish I could change the silver paint to another colour just as easily!

Now the car is fully mobile again, it was time to get it clean. So snow foam, wash and a quick wax with Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax.

She shines up quite well

So great news, a fresh MOT for my 530i - and no advisories! Happy times, just a shame I can't drive it - got a broken foot!! lol

Nothing earth shattering for me today, just a subtle mod. Being silver with black leather I think my E39 is a bit dull really.

I thought I'd go for something 'stealthy' rather than bright to lift the interior a little - some dark grey floor mats. Not exciting but for 16 notes off eBay it was worth a punt!

I'm quite pleased with the result - I think it looks quite classy in the flesh. I'm sure they'll go fluffy quickly but they do fit really well and have the right fastenings with them to.

They were yes. It's a subtle change, but in the flesh I think it looks ok.

Yes, a pleasing subtle contrast I reckon.

Here's the link - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131601584429?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&var=430972799392&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I went cheap as wasn't sure if the colour would work. However, whilst they're not the thickest, they seem a very good fit and probably better than a set I bought for £25 last year.

I'm expecting them to go fluffy quickly, purely because they're cheap. If they don't I'll be well pleased

A few little updates. First of all I had the EML come on, but the car still ran great.

Having looked at the fault codes, and chatting with someone on FB with similar, I purchased a new fuel breather valve - only 24 notes off eBay. I'm still to fit it but hopefully it will take care of the issue. The light is only intermittent - and mostly when it's really hot outside.

I also noticed the rear discs were looking pretty crap, so new discs, pads and wear sensor were fitted to the rear on Friday.

Car is filthy and really needs a clean!!

One result was at last finding a gear knob with technical graphite trim on it. The leather was gone, so the trim went in to my own knob (oo-er!) 18 notes well spent I think given the scarcity.

I've still got may VANOS repair kit to fit - I'm looking forward to that as hoping it may improve my 20MPG at best results! I've got no VANOS rattle but guessing with 127k miles on the clock and no evidence of them being replaced, they must need doing.

And, despite being silver, this one is starting to get under my skin a bit now. Maybe I won't sell it and get another 530d after all :-D
