Gaydon Bmw Festival 2016 ?

Didn't have the M535i back in time so we took my lad's minty E30 316i. Had a good day as we'd not been to Gaydon for 7 years but it was a bit 'flat - agree with the comments about the club photo taking a lot of the cars away (100!!) during the main part of the day for a good couple of hours.  Good to catch up with a few faces though.  Ditto some of the suggested shows and would add stuff like Chiltern Hills Rally near Aylesbury in May, various Croxley Green gatherings (I think there's one more this September?), Earls Barton evenings, etc.  The regular Sunday Scrambles at Bicester Heritage are well worth a trip especially for the older stuff. Tend to do general shows now as the BMW only ones are a bit 'same old - same old'.

Ah, so that's what it was on the passenger side window! :)

I think the 100 year photo too a lot of cars away from the main area which made it seem quieter than it was.  I think the photo caused too much disruption on the day and may have been batter done on the Saturday, but then that would have meant people staying overnight which would have excluded some from taking part.  Time will tell if the picture was worth the disruption.

I had a good day, but I was rushing about quite a bit between locations, got to see a few people but not everyone I knew was there.

It hand't crossed my mind to ask if you were a part of this forum, I spoke with you at length early in the day about your car and about the M1 in general. I was with the over excited guy that kept saying he expected you to drive a Golf diesel as a daily ha ha. Was really good to meet you and thank you for taking the time to talk to us, it was very interesting and informative!

Sorry to everyone for not saying goodbye but when we left no one was on the stand ha ha. I was going to stay and socialise but my friend hadn't been to a BMW show before so was like a rabid dog with 2 dongs wanting to see all the cars. I enjoyed it myself but more for the drive there and seeing the forums usual suspects than the show itself. However, I was massively surprised to only see 3 other E34s in the entire show!

I believe you would call that "Exclusive" LOL

As an aside, I went to the Silverstone Classic a couple of weeks ago. BMWCC had a stand there with 40ish cars on it, of which about half looked like they'd been bought on Gumtree on the way up. Was Gaydon similar?

We had over 200 cars on the stand on Saturday and about 160 on Sunday, nearly 3 hours of Sunday took well over 100 cars off the stand for the parade lap, much longer than anticipated due to race control dragging their feet about letting us on. I do agree though the quality could be better and I'd never dream of showing a car that wasn't as clean as possible, this doesn't seem to occur to many members of the club, I've noticed the same at Gaydon many times.

Personally I thought it was a great day. Plenty of banter between friends. And some interesting stuff on show.

You're right, there were more there than I thought.

Do you know who the red E28 M5 belongs to? Anyone on here?

Yes Dan, it belongs to a friend of mine, Tim.

Actually I was looking at the plans for it on Friday evening, the area required is much bigger than you'd think, something like 40 x 65m.  A road would not be big enough, unless it was a 6 lane section of motorway.  There was no other space big enough at Gaydon given all the other cars and stands,

Amazing how long it took to setup this

I reckon it looks good Richard, the end result has made all the measuring and cone-dragging worthwhile. I can still remember the distances for the cones that we took from the layout sheet....!
