£1200 ain't to bad been told my torque converter is ok and it's just my e clutch slipping

Torque converters were the main failing on this gearbox. It's more down to would you risk taking box out, only repairing e-clutch, and then 3 months down the line the converter packs in and damages e-clutch and you've got to pay all over again!

^Exactly, so if the box comes out, refurb the whole lot, which costs nearly as much as the trade in value of the older ones.

Yeah but there is more to it than that. You spend £3.5k and then you get a few more years from the car. You have to have the means to spend double or more say on a newer model, and then you'd probably lose £3.5k in depreciation in very short order. A lot depends on what condition your car is in and how much other work has been done on it.

You are right. It's horses for courses. I will have lost that on my F10 which I bought after my E60's E clutch failed. I had other issues that would have needing sorted but with it being my daily driver and lack of spare time due to family commitments, I listened to my head and the wife (but don't tell her that) and the E60 went for the F10.

I remember doing Iddz car! We replaced the torque convertor and E-clutch frictions/steels. Gave the gearbox a thorough cleaning to get rid of all contamination by burnt friction material. Went into the valve body, and replaced all accumulators, refit to box with fresh oil and adaptions and drove lovely! Think was around £1200!

Decided to repair rather than replace guys.

Just need a good auto specialist, automatic transmissions in Preston seem spot on just bit far from newcastle.

Tried austin transmission up near me they says 2k min and 3k if new valvebody is needed which is alot more than most auto specialist have quoted.

Thanks James.

Sounds about right price for a recon. I don't understand the quotes of £1k, that can't be for a full recon, swapping a box Mibbies.

Of course, no point doing the job if you're not going to do it properly! Do it once and do it right!

Thanks for clarifying that James. You serviced my E60 on 31st May and although I intended to ask about whether flushing was included on the day I forgot to ask.
