E28's & Other 5 Series on the Hill - 18/06/16 - Fort Nelson, Portsmouth

111 posts in this topic

We thought we would arrange another meet this year on Portsdown Hill, however rather than just E28's on the Hill we thought we would make it an All 5 Series Forum meet this time.

Saturday 18th June is the day in question.

We have been granted the use of the front lawn in front of the  Royal Armouries Museum being allowed to park amongst the big guns where we can meet up and admire each other's cars and which can also provides some great photo opportunities.

The museum also has some great views over the Solent and the surrounding areas and best of all entry to the museum is  free - I'm sure some of you will enjoy a look round the fort and its tunnels as well as the large historic collection of guns.

The car park to the museum opens at 8am, so we can arrive and park up from between 8am and 10 am, Mick and myself will be on the gate to direct you onto the front lawn.

Address of Royal armouries is:

Sharkfan, though one....if everyone is bringing a 5er, I'd say E34 Touring, if not, then the 6er will do!

I have telephoned the Operations Manager at Fort Nelson and they are happy to host us on Saturday 18 June 2016.

So "E28's on the Hill" from last year has morphed into "E28's and other 5 Series on the Hill at Fort Nelson".

They have proposed setting aside an area for us to gather / park.

If the ground is still wet / waterlogged then one of their options is to use the parade ground inside the fort, but this has a greater degree of difficulty with attendant health and safety issues.

I will arrange to visit the Operations Manager at Fort Nelson in order to explore the options in more detail and  provide feedback to the Forum.

This Museum is awesome, free to enter and when combined with a little 5 series action makes for a potentially cracking day out in the summer.

The museum contains artillery dating back thousands of years and has an impressive global collection which was acquired while Great Britain was building an empire (shooting people and stealing their countries).  It is a secret understated gem that is well worth a visit (even without any 5 series action) in my humble opinion.

Mark the date in your calendars, come and meet other Forum members and put some faces to names.

Regards,

Mick

Hi Guy,

Fort Nelson is open from 10:00am - 5pm daily April - October, so I am anticipating a similar or slightly shorter meeting time frame.

More details will be promulgated once finalised after I have visited the Operations Manager and ironed out any potential issues.

Regards,

Mick

An ambitious plan, but can we manage to assemble 28 x E28s on the hill at Fort Nelson from within the Forum?

It is the BMW 100 centenary after all if you need an excuse.

Have a good weekend.

Regards,

Mick

I'd like to pop along but won't know until the weekend itself.

If that's ok I'll just turn up if I can.

Having just slung the postcode into Google Maps, this looks like a really interesting place for a meet. An easy run down the A3 as well.

Weather permitting I intend to get along.

I think the Museum is awesome, understated and a little bit of a secret.  Well worth a visit and entry is free.

Look forward to meeting you on the day.

Mick
