I,ve been outside since 7:30 brilliant sunny fresh morning so the Little Donkey has had a bath, polish and a little titivation ready to go out for the day, probably stop for lunch in Mumbles and then for a spin over the Beacons.

Took advantage of the glorious weather and went for a blast with a few lads, Porsche Carrera 4 turbo, GT3, Triumph 2500Pi , a ferrari 250 Rep and a monza.

Unfortunately the Little Donkey then developed a fault while in hot pursuit, missing, sputtering and general lack of power under load, now it won't start so the day ended on a trailer.

No went from Llanelli to Pontarddulais up to Cross Hands and over Maesybont to Dryslwyn in the Towy  and up to Llandovery for breakfast. The donkey went pop on the way back over the top of maesybont chasing the Carrera 4 and the Pi, we do daft things when we're enjoying ourselves Doh!

Eggxactly, flaming Big Balls but a result all the same! now there's a fix to the problem.

I do believe that its brazed or silver solder that holds it in so i'm going to try a lamp on my spare flywheel to see if I can get the trigger out then figure a way of replacing the broken one without removing the gearbox.

How the hell it broke i don't know

Did it meet the speed and or the reference sensor coming in the opposite direction?

Has a nut or bolt worked loose and obstructed the path of the trigger pin?

Might be worth a rummage around or pop an endoscope in and have a look.  The broken pin could be the effect and the cause still be there waiting for a replacement trigger pin to swing past

Regards,

Mick

oooo! missus you can't say that

I don't think the cause is still in there there was a noise under the car just before the loss of power and missing started and being on full throttle in hot pursuit it was not the trigger pin I heard.   I did however find the small lattice grill missing in the bottom of the bell housing so there's two possabilities.

Something has come out and taken the trigger pin with it during the impact. There are only two things I can think of, sensor or bolt head i.e. crank shaft

or

The cover was missing and a stone has gone in smashed the pin and out. Possible because I did not stop straigh away because i was giving it large and must have done another mile or two before finally giving up.

Anyway it's not brazed its tig welded high strength dissimilar metal but its' going to be a stick welder fixing it.

IT LIVES !

The Little Donkey is alive and kicking, with the help of my mate we managed to get the old snapped tang out of the flywheel and welded in a new trigger.

I think I'll add vet to my CV

Its been a ball ache after fixing the flywheel trigger, the heater valve started to leak so I had to make a new main seal, then trying to be good by flushing the system the top hose connection broke off the radiator and finally then the spark plugs needed renewing because some were fouled after the trigger snapped off. That's the beauty of keeping spare parts I suppose.

All said and done she drove faultlessly all the way to Bethesda in North Wales today and did not miss a beat nearly 190 miles, stunning scenery and some brilliant roads.

What a day, it doesn't get better !!

The drive home from Bethesda in North Wales down through Capel Curig was spectacular and made all the more better when you're driving a classic, i@ll let the pictures do the talking, they were just on the way to the summit before dropping into Blaenau Ffestiniog.
