BMW 520d B47 Engine Fuel Consumption

Recommended Posts

As well as the type of journeys undertaken can people state whether their car is an F10 or F11 and what diameter wheels they are running. These can make a massive difference whereby an F10 520d auto on 17"s should be most economic as it is the lightest and most aerodynamic.

2015 B47 Sports Auto F10 19" normally but 18" for winter. 12000 miles averaging 50.2 mpg over the last 2000 miles (from trip computer, but seems close on overall range before refuelling)

Starting to become an interesting table.

Dave777, can you remember what your average was in the first 10k miles you did please? Also, what type of driving are you doing to achieve the 50.2 please? Thanks.................

I bought it with 10000 miles on it as an AUC, but it was owned by the dealer. That mpg is mainly motorway taking it easy so does not reflect much town driving. Probably 80% M way with 20% town.

It will be interesting to see how the mpg changes when i put the 19" rims back on soon.

Thanks for clearing this up Dave, appreciated. Makes a lot of sense now with what you have told us.

Dec 2014 520D M Sport, 19's, 12.5k miles @ 45.5mpg.

A mix of country roads, rural A roads and dual carriageway. I'm happy, better than 20.5 from the AMG

F10, 520d auto on 17". OBC reading 48.3mpg (did reach 49). Only 11.5k generally motorways/main roads, I agree with IanS100 that best results are when you keep her rolling along between 65 and 70. Predictably, multiple journeys on a tankful brings mpg way down even a moderate speeds.

Only consolation is that 520d is cheaper to buy then petrol variation and I never got better than 35mpg in 320i's.

I'll need to wait until I get a chance to enter the last few tanks into my spreadsheet before posting a full average, it's going to be mid to low 40s I'd think, but I did manage this on the way home from work this morning!

Put the car in Eco Pro, which I've never done cause I hated it in the last one, kept it at 65 on the 20 miles of motorway and just took my time listening to some tunes and got lucky with lights through the towns and villages that make up the rest.

Sorry I should add this is a B47 520d on 19".

Wow Dave, that is bloody good, so, essentially you reset it on the road, then cruised at 50 ish mph for 40 miles and it gave you that mpg?. Impressive, are you sure yours in a B47 lol?

I would love to try that on mine when I have the chance. Does the F10/F11 have two trip computers, ie, one you can keep running from the start and one you can playa round with on shorter trips?

There are 2 computers, the on board one keeping averages and a trip one you can show in the split screen that resets every journey (although it seems to join a few short ones together). On Gordon's picture above you can see the reset automatically tick box on the full trip computer screen.

That one I showed was starting from cold on my drive until destination doing mid 60s mph on the the M25 between junction 7 and 13.
