BMW 520d B47 Engine Fuel Consumption

Recommended Posts

I'm still just about 45mpg over everything (real, not OBC) after 10,000 miles with the car. I don't think it's too bad given the size and weight of the machine. Granted, I do a lot of longer trips. I thought it would average 47-48mpg when I bought it so it's not exactly way short of my expectations.

I filled her up and got 550km approx. (340 miles). Also, 520d Touring. That's pretty crap is it not?

I have just realised the 550 was miles not km !

As a reference and prompted by Retset post, after more than 57,000 miles the R2R average in my car is 48.2 mpg. I've looked in spritmotor.de the values that people are getting for 520d  automatic built after 2014 and the average of 62 cars is 41.1mpg while the average for a sample 188 cars built between 2011 and 2014 is  41.7mpg, so basically no difference between the two engine types inside the errors of the method. I'm enclosing the histograms of the distribution of mpg for the different users to show the wide band covered.

Looks a fair comparison that.

I know my 520d is running at approximately 40mpg on the OBC but with a probable 10% overread on that it's more than likely closer to Retset's figures of 45mpg.
