19" Spiders/172M with good tyres - testing the water...

37 posts in this topic

Hi All,

Thinking of selling my spiders and downsizing to MV2s, so just getting an idea of what they'd be worth.

They're genuine BMW wheels, no cracks or buckles, but with a few kerb marks to be expected - no horrible gouges though...

Front tyres are Michelin Pilot Super Sport with around 6-7mm tread, even wear, no punctures or damage, road-force balanced.

Rears are either Continental Sport Contact 3 or 5 (sorry, can't remember, and the wheels are currently in dry storage) with around 4-and-a-bit mm tread, even wear, no punctures or damage, road-force balanced.

I'm away for work all week, but will be able to get to the storage unit on Saturday and get some pics if anybody is interested.

PM me if you're interested and want to work out a price.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi p3tchy,

Have you got any pics?

What's the condition (I'm assuming from you, pretty good!)?

What tyres, and again condition?

Cheers,

Nick

They need a refurb as do all wheels imo. I brought them just to be my winter wheels.

Tires are all good, 5-6mm last time I checked. Not sure on make, think they are mixed on each axle. No cracks or buckles either.

OK, thanks buddy.

I'm after something that can go straight on with same tyres, so will pass, but thanks anyway.

They could go straight on, just depends how fussy you are on condition.

How much would you want just for a straight sale of the wheels then?

I'm fussy, especially when it comes down to tyres...only point of contact with the road and I prefer them to be matched  :)

The only reason the tyres aren't matched on mine 19's is that when I bought the car they had a set of Avon ZZ3s on the front, which were terrible, so I replaced those, but the rear Contis have loads of life and are pretty good tyres.

I've had a look on the bay, and currently there are a few sets on 'buy it now' auctions ranging from £450 for replicas with cracks, to £1,200.00 in good condition with OK tyres, and a few in between, mostly with cracks and worn tyres.

The listing below caught my eye as the pics are good, and there's a 'buy it now' price of £899:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-GENUINE-19-SPIDER-ALLOY-WHEELS-e60-e61-WITH-TYRES-M-SPORT-/182016154822?hash=item2a61021cc6:g:16AAAOSwPc9Wt14b

Mine are in significantly better condition, and have decent tyres with more tread.

Based on all that, I don't think £650.00 is unreasonable...

I'm away at the moment, but can post pics at the weekend, as they're in storage while my winters are on.

Cheers,

Nick

I sold my immaculate powdercoated spiders without tyres for £600 and they were heavily reduced. I offered on here for a month and no1 took them so stuck them on ebay and were gone in a day!

Why do you want to downsize to mv2s ? Any particular reason ?

Comfort, pure and simple, along with cheaper tyres...

The 17" winters I have on now look too small, however MV2s are fine.

Cheers,

Nick

If your running non runflats how different is the ride quality gonna be by downsizing to 18s? Also i found the ride to be nicer on the spiders by fitting 35 profile tyres rather than the 30s on the rear.

I have staggered reps on my 2004 E61

Did you need any extras like spacers ? Any rubbing of the tyres on the arches ? , I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the wheels should be the same all around on the pre lci e61 , as are the original mv2s that are on mine

I do have a spacers, think they are only 10mm and came with the car. Tyres are 275/30/19 and wheels are 9.5 at the rear.

Looks like this....

As you can see, they're all pretty good, although you can see which pair have been kerbside!

The main thing is that they are straight, not cracked, have had no welds done, and the tyres are all good; just to confirm, the rears are Continental Sport Contact 5P.

Cheers,

Nick

Thanks p3tchy, but can't really drive on an iPhone 6  :D

Either cash or px against a set of MV2s and tyres in similar condition.

Cheers,

Nick
