Modern classics... What to buy with 3k... Discuss

There is a station on ebay now biding up to £1500, good car as a rolling restored and move on.

I would copy and paste the listing but I have no idea how to do it on a tablet.

The last lancer turbo I owned was 200+ bhp and I have seen one light up the rears on the rollers at 300, the rolling road guy was amazed for a single can engine and the article went into CCC I think.

Anyway the station has the same 2.0 engine

To be honest there isn't much about these days that's sub 3k, at that level my money would be on a Peugeot 205 1.9 or a mk2 golf gti 16v.

I had a boss years ago that had an SL like the one above, he would give me a lift in to work once or twice a week and I can remember it seemed like a solid, quality bit of kit, that said though, the above example does have a rusty front wing. :???:  And I imagine it would be expensive to mend if anything goes wrong.

I like your watch list , it's a bit like mine.

What's a varrati???

Something very cool about that viva and it's a shame about the fiat, if they had tried just a little bit harder they may of got it right

I like the 3.0L Carlton it's a nice alternative it was the poor man's BMW but there are not many around now.

The Varanti is different as is the Fiat, I would choose the Fiat a real gem and with the twin cam fitted some real tuning possibilities.

The Sierra 2.0is not a bad price at the moment, there are not many of these about either in unmolested form.

I've never actually been in a 205GTI but my mates brother had a 1.9 309 GTI years ago, we went up to west Wales in one weekend and on those roads I think I would have to have worked the M5 to keep up with it, it was a fast car on the twisties! Oh, and it had red carpet! :)

A 205 and a 309 will always beat an M5 any M5 on the twisties, being much much lighter and less wieldy than the M5's, brilliant cars though they are.

A nice clean unmolested Renault 5 Turbo...

That'll be about £6-10K then  ..................

Quentin Willson tipped the SD1s to be a good buy in 2014, they've more than doubled since and £3K will get a half decent six pot, or a V8 than needs some TLC. No good for Dogs though as rear boot cill is too high..............
