E39 touring rear sus airbag securing bolt

Recommended Posts

Is this a backwards thread does anyone know? I have managed to turn it anti clock wise but it's very stiff and seems to be tightening.

Also having to hold the airbag in place to stop it from spinning

Hi,

No normal way round. Is there a locating peg as well? If so push them base down to relocate it.

Cheers,

Gavin :)

I couldn't see a locating peg. I managed to hold it from spinning but it didn't loosen even after a full rotation. Feels like I'm just over tightening it

Not sure if the bolt looks like there could be corrosion but that is the classic feel of a bolt about to snap on the way out... a whole world of pain.

If there is any possibility of this get the WD40 in there and keep working it to/fro in the first rotation where its happy then going for an extra 1/4 turn each time and back with another squirt of WD40.

Bolt head getting warm is a warning sign.
