    Leak from Turbo Seal

I have increased emissions, on looking round my engine bay I found a gas leak around the point where my intercooler pipe meets my turbo. Replaced the seal on the end of the intercooler pipe and there’s still a leak??? Any ideas?

    Turbo fitting

Hello everyone I am a new member of this forum so please excuse me for any mistakes. I am interested in increasing power in my beloved bmw e34 m20b25 engine. Thinking about turbo or compressor. Does anybody know where i can do that? I am from Staines-upon-Thames, Heathrow area. Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Hello everyone. I have a 2004 525d Touring which has recently developed an issue with loss of power. (120k Miles). When started cold, I can drive normally and I have full power until about 5 mins in, it's almost like there is no boost whatsoever. It does still rev out, but takes about 2 mins to get to 60MPH. With enough space, I can reach 90MPH on the motorway, but this would take about 5 mins. There are no warning lights or messages on any display. What have I done so far? The first thing I did, was a full filter service and engine oil, hoping that whilst doing so, i could spot something physically wrong, like a split hose. I took the EGR off (which actually wasn't too bad) gave it a thorough clean and replaced. Cleaned the MAF sensor with electrical cleaner. Connected BMW DIS and run some diagnostics and checked the fault codes. Changed both thermostats Went for a long drive, and believe completed a forced regen (brother in passenger seat activating and confirming status with DIS). Although, didn't see any smoke, hear anything and the exhaust tip was as spotless as before. My thoughts are that it might be the turbo or a blocked DPF. (the exhaust tips have been extremely clean since I purchased the car 12 months ago.). I ran a back-pressure test through DIS, and the values were fine. However, it seems like it could be electrical. My caveman logic says that "if I have full boost when cold, then disappears when warmed, must be electrical?" I read a post about checking to see if the actuator arm moves when you turn the ignition on. I checked this, and it twitches slightly, but not much. Video here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4v4po1wnyhehim0/2017-06-04 14.40.06.mp4?dl=0 The turbo spins freely and the play is within tolerances. DIS reveals the following error codes: 4521 DDE: Charge-air pressure control, control deviation 3F57 DDE: Charge-air pressure controller Does anyone have any ideas on how to test this further? I really cant pocket a new turbo on this car, so I'm hoping it is something friendly. I haven't checked any vacuum hoses. Thanks in advance to all!

    Turbo Pressure Converter Price Please

Hi, Please could I have a price for a single pressure converter - part nr. 11658509323 Car is a 535D M Sport LCI - GU57XYK I had them all replaced by an indy approx 1 year ago or so and I believe them to be the new type with the round cover on the end. The bracket is for the new type so it is just the PC that i require. Also, just in case, how much is a length of blue vacuum hose - part nr. 11657796879 Many thanks Wayne
  6. Long story short, had my turbo rebuilt with hybrid specs, but leaking oil through the hotside (downpipe) - any reason this would happen like? Cars a 2004 530d, m57n 218bhp model - me units a GT2260V and at time of job fitted new turbo inlet/oulet pipes/gaskets/all oem, fitted new crankshaft breather, engine oil flush etc Have no oil passiing from cold side or manifold side of turbo. It has a nice mist from the breather exit pipe to air pipe Motor has SWIRL FLAP/EGR/DPF/CAT deletes in place, bigger IC. I've done maf/map sensor/air filter/oil filter/new turbo seals/vac lines All these mods have been in place years and ran fine with original turbo unit producing just under 300bhp. The unit was only removed as it had a slight whine and suspected carbon buildup, never passed oil/was bone dry when removed. The hybrid turbo was fitted, it leaked so sent back, apparently nowt found wrong but had few bits swapped out as precaution, was then fitted second time...same problem, unit removed again and now going back for further inspection Turbo Sepc: Everything you would expect from a reconditioned unit, including electric actuator + following hybrid specs: # MACHINE COMPRESSOR HOUSING AND FIT LARGER EXTENDED TIP BILLET COMPRESSOR WHEEL 6 BLADE # WAS INDUCER 44.50 EXDUCER 60.00 # NOW INDUCER 49.50 EXDUCER 62.00 # CUTBACK TURBINE WHEEL BLADES FIT 360 DEGREE BEARING UPGRADE # FIT STAGGERED GAP PERFORMANCE OIL SEALS. In terms of... Oil loss...exhaust is caked in oil, lost probably 2ltrs all in over last 3month - this makes for a very smokey drive, the hotter the exhaust gets. Kinda hoped it would burn off, but seeing as its still leaking, no choice now but to have removed and cleaned (i've just taken off and will be doing this while awaiting turbo to be returned, will delete backbox at same time as this will be ruined too) Diognostics....car had zero faults prior...but have two popping up now, one relates to MAF, other to 02 sensor in cat - sensor is on downpipe and has had allot of oil pass over it so not surprised with this fault, suspect its throwing the MAF off too as that was changed within the last 12mths too (new bosch unit) Performance...turbo seems to be performing well, feels strong by far then the original unit, but ideally needs to be mapped again - cant do until leaks sorted (bit useless mind if problem persists ) I've also had compression test done on engine and everythings within tollerenace, tried a thicker grade oil (so 5w/40 opposed to 5w/30, still ll04 approved), metioned before but crankshaft breather. Return pipe from turbo is stock, cant really mod this and at a good factory angle Was thinking maybey it needs a restrictor of sort as the jap folk often use them, but turbo company said not needed as not a ball bearing turbo, completely differnt turbo Any ideas??

    Turbo strange noise

Re : Turbo noisy!? car : BMW 525 d Auto E60 2005 , 110,000mls I am not a racer and the vehicle has been well looked after by the previous one owner but it seems to make a little bit of high pitch whistle extra noise at slow speed and moves low revs ( in fact it sounds quite good ) - is this a problem on horizon that needs to be dealt with ? - if a problem what can be done about it? - if a new turbo , then which good one would you recommend to buy privately and ill ask professional to fit it ? ( I understand the turbos on the E60's are not particularly good ??) I look forward to your replies and suggestions from those that know Kind regards, Luke

    Turbo S/N identification

Hi All Can anyone id this turbo on my 525 I think its the wrong one fitted S/N fcg01765f I can't get the other numbers off it at the moment I may use carb cleaner. any ideas please I think its off a 530D not sure which model many thanks
  9. Hi all. About a month ago I started hearing a whine from the engine when lifting off the loud pedal that didn't quite go down in pitch with the engine revs. No smoke and no apparent loss of power, but nevertheless I asked my mechanic to listen and he confirmed my suspicions that the noise was coming from the turbo. So today we fitted a new Garrett, new oil pipe & banjo bolts and changed the oil breather for the vortex one. The total job took about three hours including new oil and air filters and a brief check of the electrical connections on the injectors, which I didn't think was too shabby. She is all back together and humming away nicely and the first thing I've noticed is how much quicker the pick up is when accelerating. It's really quite noticeable! We were right with the turbo - there is +/-1mm sideways play in the bearings so it was definitely on its way out! So it's steady driving for a while to let everything bed in and then we should be back to normal. Off to see a little two-seater something-for-the-weekend tomorrow if the weather holds... Fingers crossed! That'll be a nice steady hour's run for the new turbo. Let's hope it all goes well! Cheers SavCom
  10. Hi All my car has had a few issues since i got it some months ago and I have asked a few questions before but as I have fixed the vac pipes and pressure control valve on the turbo and blocked off the egr it still keeps cutting out if i drive it too hard like the safety manifold pressure sensor triggers I have fitted a new one and it was worse so refitted the orignal.I was told by the old owner the turbo came off a 330d but are the same is this correct I ask or do I need to reduce the actuator back a bit or dose the 330's turbo boost at a higher level and the map software is being triggered because its looking for 525d pressures. I have looked at the exhaust just to be sure its not blocked it looks ok but would a duff cat cause problems, the car starts and drives fine and as long as I don't gun it to hard runs fine the egr did have an issue causing staling whilst coasting down hill when I blocked off the vac pipe it stopped that so the only issue is this what looks like over pressure causing limp mode no lights on dash any ideas please

    535D SOUNDS LIKE A TRACTOR :(

HI ALL, IM NEW TO ALL THIS BOUGHT MYSELF A 2004 535D. EVERY RECEIPT FOR THE CAR, ALL SERVICED BY BMW UP UNTIL APRIL 2015. I WAS RETURNING FROM A TRIP TO THE SOUTH OF UK AND BACK AT THE WEEKEND AND ON THE WAY BACK I WAS CRUISING AT 70/75MPH. I GOT CAUGHT BEHIND A BAD BOY CORSA WHO WOULDNT SHIFT INTO THE MIDDLE LANE SO I UNDERTOOK HIM. IN MY FRUSTRATION I PUT MY FOOT DOWN. A WAY TO SHOW HIM WHO IS BOSS REALLY. WE ALL DO IT. AS I ACCELERATED FROM 70 TO AROUND 100 (I HAD MUSIC BLASTING) I NOTICED A STRANGE VIBRATION SUDDENLY. I SLOWED DOWN TO AROUND 60 AND TURNED MY MUSIC OFF. GUT WRENCHING THINKING I HAD BLEW UP MY BEAUTY. THE 535 STILL SEEMED TO HAVE THE POWER THERE BUT IT SOUNDED HORRIFIC, AS IF THE EXHAUST WAS BLOWING MASSIVELY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE EXHAUST MID SECTION. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THAT AREA. I PULLED OVER IN THE NEXT SERVICES, 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND INVESTIGATED FURTHER. THE SOUND WASNT COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AS I HAD HOPED. I POKED MY HEAD UNDER THE CAR AND SAW/HEARD NOTHING BAD FROM THERE. HOWEVER AT IDLE, THE ENGINE SOUNDED HORRIBLE. I SHUT THE CAR DOWN STRAIGHT AWAY AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN 10 MINUTES LATER WHILST I WAITED FOR MY FRIEND WITH HIS TOW TRUCK. THE SOUND WAS STILL BAD BUT WASNT AS BAD AS WHEN IT WAS WARMER WHEN I HAD PULLED OVER. THE CAR IS NOW SAT ON MY DRIVEWAY AND IM AWAY IN SCOTLAND FOR WORK. I PLAN TO GET HOME TO IT AT THE WEEKEND AND HAVE A BETTER LOOK AND MAYBE EVEN CALL THE AA OUT TO SEE IF THEY CAN EVALUATE THE SITUATION. TILL THEN, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? OR HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE? IM HOPING ITS NOT TOO PRICEY, ALREADY HAD TO COUGH UP FOR A NEW CRANK VIBRATION PULLEY, ALTERNATOR AND AIR CON COMPRESSOR. WITH NEW BELT OF COURSE. HELP PLEASE GUYS GREATEST REGARDS TOM

    Oil in Intake 520d

It's been a while to open the hood and just noticed that just about every fitting on the air intake has some oil on the outside. What caught my eye was a lot of black oil on the EGR valve cover flange. Didn't have the time to take things apart but I'm sure that everything inside the air intake must be splattered with black oil. The car has 61k on the clock and for this engine this amount of oil is unusual. Any ideas what could it be other than the usual EGR or turbo oil leakage? Oil breather maybe??
  13. Hey guys, back again with an issue! So, brief history: 530d 04 E60 125K Had a leak a couple of days ago, which was solved due to a inlet pipe not being connected.. So, not an hour ago something under the bonnet gave an all mighty pop/bang. Was overtaking, so giving it some, and pop... Engine tone completely changed, no pull, so cruised at 60 until I could stop. Expecting the turbo, I looked at the left side of the engine, nothing too untoward. However the right side of the engine has signs of a burst pipe

    M106 m30b35 turbo

Hello, I am new user here. Just upgraded e28, there was M106 engine, the new upgrade is M5 engine from e34.
  16. Hi guys I really need some help. I have only owned my 520D LCI M Sport Auto for 2.5 months and I think its gonna be an expensive ride to keep and maintain - I hope its just me being over paranoid, but please have a read of the problems I am having. I am the second owner on my vehicle, according to the service manual its had 3 services, 2 prior to owning the car, and 3rd was done at 40k when I bought the vehicle. I don't think any services have been done on the car as the original pollen and air and fuel filter were still in the car, and I do not think the garage I bought the car from did an oil change either (I am assuming this based on the fact that its been 2 months I have been chasing him for an invoice, and he has failed to send me this. I was told he was going to type one up and post it me, which never happened) Whilst under the car noticed that a few clips and screws were missing for th eparts you would remove in order to get to the turbo, so I am assuming my car has had a turbo change also! Rather than repeating myself again in this thread I have attached a link to the other thread I have listed my problems in as they do not stop there. Hope you can help/advise me what to do http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/87246-advice-needed-changing-brake-pads-discs-sensors-hand-brake-shoes/?p=921643 Also my stats have gone coz the temp is below 80C whilst I was driving on motorway, which means my car has poss been not regenning either, (only god knows how long this has been for) so I may well have a blocked DPF very soon too! GREAAAAT!!!! Also when I was messing around in the hidden menu, I found a message reading 320d now what does that mean - could this poss tie in with my doubt of having a replacement turbo in my car?

    HELP PLEASE!

Afternoon Lads/Lasses I recently bought my E39 530D in Imola Red from Flandy off the forums. I gave the car to my BMW specialist to give a once over and he has pointed out the following issues, can anyone shed some light into the costs of repairs and if they are really a must to do straight away as i am a bit limited on cash flow... Inspection service due brake fluid change anti freeze change o/s/f rear bottom arm n/s/f anti roll bar link rear brake pads and discs (obviously this is a must) o/s/r rose bush and integral link (my mechanic refused to test drive the car as he said the wheel will fly off) ? handbrake shoes and handbrake is way to tight fuel pipe excessively corroded I appreciate that the car is 12 years old, so majority of the above is simply down to age, wear and tear however the major issue that i am extremely concerned about is, the engine is miss firing, randomly the car will start juddering and shaking excessively, especially at a set of traffic lights, or sometimes whilst driving, at which point i turn the engine off, start her back up and she is fine, however the fuel economy is just horrendous...literally i have spent £140 on fuel on the past 200 miles? £20 a day and i hardly drive no more than 30-40 miles if that? most of it is on the motorway as i use the car to go to work. The mechanic did say it needs a injector test, he also mentioned that at some point in her life she has been ran on red diesel as the fuel pipes have red dye remains. Has anyone had a similar problem? Oh and the turbo is loosing pressure however when i have driven the car i have noticed no lack of power as such, just a very loud wishing or whistle? Any feedback will be much appreciated, as i have only bought the car last week and already have a quote of £550 for parts plus £350 labour and that does not include diagnosed the judder/injector issue or the turbo whistle!
  18. Hello guys! As some of you know, I have some odd happenings with my turbo. Does anyone have diagrams or pictures as to where all the vacuum hoses are located into and out of? I have changed the boost control solonoid and replaced some small diameter hosing that runs along the top of the block just under the rocker cover. Changing this hosing made quite a difference in pick-up but hasnt solved the problem, I am still convinced it is a vacuum leak somewhere and want to eliminate all the easy (and cheap) options before replacing the turbo. If I can get the locations of all the hoses it could be, I can inspect them and change/rule them out. many thanks!

    Does this turbo sound cheap?

Hi guys, my turbo is fine but i thought i would do a bit of research anyway. I found this turbo on ebay germany, the seller is turbo_max_de and has 100% feedback. Does 350 euro sound cheap? There are quite a few sellers selling e39 turbos at this price in germany. How much is a refurb unit in the uk? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Garrett-Turbolader-fur-BMW-5er-auch-Touring-135-KW-184-und-142-KW-193-PS-2-/121053370849?pt=DE_Autoteile&fits=Platform%3AE39%7CType%3A530d&hash=item1c2f57d9e1

    Turbo or not?

My 530D touring (114k) has been virtually faultless until about 14 months ago when the turbo blew, big time, causing oil fire I got a reman unit and had it fitted by my local garage, all good except that it whistled a lot at low revs, power delivery and consumption all fine with no smoke. after 7- 8k however Im getting intermiitent power problems, mostly on motorways, put foot down at say 60mmph and response is zero, if it s a hill it will slow and the revs will gradually decrease. After a few miles and a bit of juddering normal service will kick in again. the problem might not occur for up 200 miles but at other times can be more frequent. Garage put it on diagnostics for me and it came up with P1E30, Boost Control or Boost Control Valve. Phoned Turbo supplier ( Essex Turbos) they say most likely cause is carbon build up on the vanes, but I cant understand this as I had the oil breather changed and the In Intercooler cleaned when the new turbo was fitted. Im no expert to say the least but im wondering if; - An unrelated problem is present and the Turbo fault code hasnt cleared from the previous issue - The boost Control Valve/sensor is faulty - There is a problem with the replacement turbo (I hope not as the guranttee has expired) Also I dont know whether to to take it to my local garage again or whether I need a BMW specialist workshop to have a look at it. Bearing in mind its a 10 year old car which is no worth a fortune Would welcome any thougts
