well after 7 months i. my first beemer i am so happy, this 3 litre 6 pot is so responsive especially after a long standing beemer owner friend told me about sport mode with gear lever pushed to the left..... oh my the joy i guess the car car is generally so quiet over good road surfaces but i do find outside noises (other vehicles close by) and tyre noise quite disturbing.... is this because the car is itself so quiet ? most annoying is the rattles from from the rear seat and i can not identify where it’s from dealer has made sure seat back is tight i have plugged in the seat belts so it’s. or the buckle on the hard plastic side bolster ( why isn’t this leather like the seats) sounds like it is its seat belt buckles ?? also, when it’s wet and raining i hear doors squeak when i hit a hole or drain as if they are moving up and down - could this be the source of my rattle ?? anyone else had rattles repaired ?

My 97 540iA has decided to develop a grinding noise when under loading. When you put your foot on the accelerator at cruising speeds there is an awful grinding noise from the transmission. The revs also fluctuate slightly. Once your foot is either lifted off or pressed harder into the pedal the noise stops. It used to only happen at like 50mph in 5th and 30mph in 4th when the car needed to change gear but its not happening more often in a wider range of speeds and gears. The best way to grasp what I'm saying is by listening to the videoIn the video I have my foot on the pedal maintaining a constant speed which causes grinding. Im lifting my foot off and on to make the grinding more noticeable. Pressing too hard results in the car changing into a lower gear which is what I do in the end of the video. Thanks for your time
