  1. Time to Change the Company Car

I'd welcome thoughts. Having previously owned a 335i M Sport Coupe (E90) and prior to that a 525i Touring (E61), three years ago, I switched to Audi (the other Bavarian Motor Manufacturer) and went for the S5 Sportsback Black Edition, with a few upgrades. It has served me well running all over the UK and when I hand it back in a few months time it will have clocked 100k plus miles in just about three years. There are two cars in the running as replacements. Another S5, a safe option that isn't going to let me down or a 540i M Sport Saloon (G30) which isn't quite as quick but has a lot more room and appears to benefit from technology that has moved forward significantly in the last three years. If it is to be the 540i (and I'm more and more inclined in that direction as each day passes) then are then any real 'must have' options? Driving Assistant Plus Parking Assistant Plus Electronic Damper Control Harman & Kardon Sound System These options totalling circa £5k have all been 'recommended' by my local 'friendly' BMW dealer. That said, I get the EDC and equally love a variety of music, the basic BMW system in the 335i didn't match the B&O system in the Audi, but there is a limit and £3.7k on a sound upgrade if you go top of the range seems a little over the top. Having read a number of threads on here it is pretty difficult to gauge the manufacturing lead-time, the fore mention 'friendly' dealer suggested twelve weeks from point of order, that looks conservative relative to some experiences. So any thoughts or observations on the above, particularly the extras and lead time would be welcome and in return if it is to be the BMW I promise to keep you all posted with updates as the journey progresses to the exciting day of delivery and probably beyond.
  2. M Sport suspension

Hi all, this should be a fairly straight forward one to answer (most likely Mr Ashton) but can anyone tell me do cars with M-sport suspension fitted have airbags at the rear??? I suspect not but i`m almost certain that when i got in the car this morning to move it I felt the rear rise up, and my daughter has commented before whilst standing outside the car that the rear looked low.... I cannot see anything obvious when I look into the wheel arch just the usual strut but no obvious spring either.. It was dark this morning so figured guys in the know on here could tell me (or girls to be politically correct) I`m sure they don`t have airbags just on the rear but you never know with the way BMW spec individual cars.. Thanks in advance
  3. Help! 530d msport poorly

Hi all, forgive me for my inexperienced post but I'm a newbie and really need some advice. Ive got a 530d msport e60 2005 and I've had it for a few months now. It started off with an idrive problem and it's now spiralled into a few other issues and I need to know what to do with it. I want to buy some new parts, and fit them. I just need to know which ones and why etc. Firstly, the idrive system works until I turn the car on and off again. It constantly reboots. Is there a cheap easy fix? I've tried resetting it but no luck. If not I can deal with it as it's not mega issues. Secondly, a few issues which I'm not sure are all related? But here we go. It may not be in order. My car is exceptionally smokey. It plummets out black thick smoke especially when I put my foot down a bit. It is very smelly of diesel and makes me very poorly when driving with any window open. I've got thick soot on the whole left hand side of my engine bay, been told I have an exhaust manifold leak. What parts do I need to fix it and how? I don't fancy going to a garage. I also have a very whiny turbo as it spools. It's very very loud. Also a loud blowing noise. it also goes into different severities of limp modes sometimes there's absolutely no power sometimes there is. engine light came on 2 months after these problems started. The front two alloys have two ridiculously large dents in, done by previous owner. I'm not THAT much of a typical woman driver.....;) haha. I'm planning to get this sorted soon so I'm not driving round with 9psi in them!!!!! Grrrrrr I know its not the best of explanations especially hard to determine what's the problem whilst not seeing or hearing, but I'd like to get some advice as to what this could be and why and I can go from there. I don't really fancy going to a garage because either me or my partner can fix it, just need some guidance as to where to start as we're used to old jap crap. Thankyou!!!! Xxxx
  4. Hello there, 2005/3 E60 535d Msport automatic in Carbon Black. I always wanted to do a Project thread regarding a BM. I've seen a quite a lot of ''Project threads'' here and elsewhere mostly without any pictures or in-depth explanations or just a dead end threads. Hopefully, this should become one.... So then... I got this beauty advertised on Gumtree as a high mileage one(192k miles on it at the time of purchase), so it was a cheap one, just 3.5k. Since I am not afraid of a high mileage cars I opted for this one instead of 2008 E60 530d LCi. The guy that I bought it from used it mostly to get to work in Dublin and Belfast and since he is living near Newry, he did a quite a lot of motorway miles. Just to make sense why I chose this instead of LCi was most of the distances he traveled. Just to make sense of it: If I had a choice to buy a lower spec car from somebody out in a country and a car, that has mostly been used at the town/city with higher spec gadgets and gizmos I would choose the one that is at the countryside every time. Why? because of: 1. It's a diesel! It is supposed to be used on longer journeys to be more economical than the same capacity petrol engine. Since I do a lot of miles myself this is why I went for it. 2. It's a diesel! It clogs up if you drive like a granny on Sundays after a church mess on your way to see the relatives/friends while doing 20-30 mph and an A-class roads where the max speed limit is 60.... Since this doesn't apply to me as I am on a motorway for a most of the miles to get to work, I don't have a problem with it. Diesel needs to be driven harsh once in a while to burn off the soot and other deposits from inlet manifold and surrounding areas. If you're doing less than 8k miles a year, diesel is not for you! 3. It keeps me busy. I wouldn't know what to do If I would buy a brand new car. Changing oil is easy, but I am looking for a challenge so a new car is a no-no for me... I like to get my hands dirty once in a while and the feeling after ou get when you fix something yourself.... Those who know what I am talking about, they will understand. 4. I can fix stuff, I can change it if it needs to be changed and I am not too sure how to do it there is that wonderful thing called ''Google'', but it needs to be master as well as not everything you see or read on there is true.... 5. I always wanted a Black BM with beige leather seats! 6. A bit more about myself at the ''Hello, I am new here'' section So there it goes, a bit of intro with a story and pictures and then straight into the stuff I have done so far. At first, it looked black on the advert, but whenever I went to see it for the first time it was actually a Carbon Black. Whit a lovely beige interior, a perfect combination in my opinion. When it's dirty or depending on sunlight conditions, it looks blue-ish or gray-ish.. (camera doesn't reflect the real color) At the Terraclean Co Down Since there is a character limit per post(but it is not displayed) I will continue in next post.
  5. Nice E61 touring, quite local to me actually, I think I've probably seen it driving around in fact https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-525d-3-0-M-Sport-Touring-6-Speed-MANUAL/182917925168?hash=item2a96c20930:g:GWgAAOSwCQlZ8kUn Presumably quite rare being a sport with a manual gearbox?
  6. As titled, the sport mode in my 530i MSport has suddenly stopped working?Works in drive fine,it's the first thing that has gone wrong with the car since I've owned it so quite gutted Is it a known problem?Or anyone have any pointers etc?
  7. F10 Lowering Springs

Hi all New to this forum. I joined as I'm having trouble finding Eibach springs that will fit my car and lower the height by more than 25 or 30mm. I'm looking a drop of about 40-45mm. I've seen people with these installed on their car but i can't seem to find anything online. If you could point me in the right direction or offer some advice on other good springs too that would be nice Thanks Chris
  8. Hello, i have been browsing for a couple of days now. Im located in Derbyshire, here is my newly aquired BMW E39 530D MSport Auto: Not the best of photo's but hey-ho! , Im looking at tidying the car up a little. First of all i will just be tidying the rust up, changing the termostat as this sticks open sometimes and servicing the car for now. I have previously owned an E36 Saloon 323i in blue and an E36 Coupe 323i in hellrot red. The car has done 160k miles with full service history, however none of these mention a gearbox service which worries me a little so i am also looking at getting this done, but overall i am really impressed with the car. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, i am all ears . Anyway i won't bore you all with anymore information about me! Cheers
  9. F10 LCI lights

Hey guys I have a 2011 525d and I want to change my headlights to LCI model lights. Currents lights are with indicators and and are adaptive lights if that help. Will the LCI lights fit my car? And is it plug and play or will I need to buy something else with them?
  10. Hello all I have been following the forum for 5series owners for some time, but couple weeks back I just got my new 57 plate bmw e60 525d lci m-sport . LOVING IT lol. Though I did have a 525d e60 m-sport prior to buying the lci e60. Piks will be posted and have done some mods so far.
  11. How Do

Hi all, Im Doc_P, I'm just about to take delivery of my first BMW. It's a 530d MSport (E60). I thought I'd better join some forums and get involved in the community....as I do with any hobbies or things I become interested in. Soak up some knowledge and wisdom from some experienced people...which there seems to be around here. See you around
  12. Hi im wondering if anyone can help me with this problem I am having - I recently upgraded my headlights to H7 HID kit on my 520d Msport Lci Step Auto - everything was going fine but then I noticed when I switch the HID lights on I get a little jerk in my car. It does not happen all the time, just on the odd occasion. If I am driving in Manual mode, it either automatically drops my gear down or if i am slowing down/standstill in traffic and I switch the light on I get the jerk and it changes the gear to DS Or if i am driving in D the little orange light on the gearbox goes out for a split second and lights back up, also this results in my gear to drop down automatically (only notice it as my revs increase). Its a bit hard to explain so sorry if i have confused you all - its like whenever it happens its like theres an extra volt that goes through the car to initially power up the H7 bulbs and thats what is causing the issue - but i may be wrong. I know bulbs have nothing to do with the auto gearbox, but as that auto gearbox also gets some sort of power supply from the battery, thought this may all be interlinked. Any one experienced this before? Or any advice on what i can do? I really like the HID upgrade I have got and do not want to get rid just coz of this jerk issue I am having. Also dont know if the problem is interlinked, I have 10w CREE LED AE bulbs in which flicker when the car is initially started and I have also got white LED number plate bulbs with a built in resistor (these have never flickered though when the car is started or AE or H7 bulbs are switched on)
  13. Hi Beemer lovers!! I'm after the above model but I got slightly confused as the advertiser claims that it has a build in freeview TV in the dash (original)?? Is this true/possible? I have never known for a 5 series to have that? I think the built in multimedia display is able to play DVD's? Can you guys help? Thanks!!
