    520d SE nearly here

Hi all! New to the forum and coming back to BMW - will be my 4th. My order is a company car, so kept options down to a minimum to keep P11D value / tax down, but the car is pretty generously spec'd as standard anyway. Can't wait for it to get here! Ordered: 520d SE Sophisto Grey Xirallic 17" standard wheels Black Leather Harman Kardon Elec Lumbar Support Model Designation Deletion Just have a quick question about the standard LED lights - what are people's experiences vs. Xenon? Is both low and high beam LED? Currently in an old employee's 2 series while I wait, and the Xenons on it are very good indeed. Cheers.

    E60 LCI - Headlight upgrades

Hello all, I've recently acquired my first BMW, a 2008 525i M-Sport. Awesome car, very happy with it in general. Being an LCI model, it has angel eye headlamps, but being of relatively low spec, it has halogen headlights, not xenon (the headlamps are not self-levelling, they have the adjuster wheel next to the headlight switch). The outer lights are dipped beams behind projector lenses, the inner lights are full beams with reflectors. I think the standard bulbs are a bit poor, so I'd like to upgrade them. I was looking for a sticky post that might answer my questions. I *was* about to spring for a HIDS4U Stealth kit (https://www.hids4u.co.uk/H7-HIDS4U-Stealth-35W-Xenon-HID-Conversion-Kit.html), but then I found that the UK MOT regulations are changing as of May 2018 to make it a guaranteed fail to have any HID kit fitted, regardless of beam pattern... My initial thoughts here were to find another E60 LCI that had been rear-ended in a scrapyard, and buy the headlamps - but it seems that even used parts appear to be hideously expensive also (the car is 10 years old this year, why are parts still so expensive?), *and* require coding, which I have no idea how to do. So, nope. Instead, I've been looking at LED headlight bulbs. I'm told that these should not fail the new MOT, and are easier to install than HIDs (wiring those up was something I was worrying about). But there's so much choice! Just to clarify - I'm talking about replacing the dipped beam bulbs with LEDs, not the high beams or fog lamps. I'm also looking at clean white light, nothing with too high a colour temperature (no blue/purple), and nothing retina-searing for oncoming drivers, if possible. I would also like to upgrade the angel eyes to make them look a bit brighter. I was surprised how dim they are by stock. I also find it slightly bizarre that every indicator on the car is an LED already, *except* for the fronts. Can someone with an LCI E60/E61 who has already gone through this lend a BMW newbie (me!) a hand? Cheers Graeme
  3. Hi I thought this would be an easy internet/eBay search, but I’m struggling. Looking for amber non-error LED rear indicator bulbs for my 2004 e60 545i. Any recommendations? Thanks

    LED Number Plate Lights

What is the best option for number plate LEDs? I bought a set of CANBUS festoon LEDs off ebay (probably Chinese) and they seemed ok but only lasted maybe 30-40 hours before one half burnt out and is glowing really dimly now. The plastic bulb housings are BMW parts. Is it advisable to go for a set of LEDs that include their own plastic housings? I've seen MTEC and Osrams of this type although they are £30-40. Ideally they'd be flicker-free, last for a long time and not be TOO bright as to blind drivers behind you. Thanks in advance!
  5. Hey guys and girls I've ordered the incorrect bulbs/led's for my 520d so I'm gifting the wrong ones to someone who actually has the use for these ones please see the pic and honestly postage is even at my cost as I'm a great believer in karma ! One day maybe it will be returned to me somehow anyway give me a shout if they are of need to you cheers all, Jon
  6. Do the LED light strips on the facelift E39 rear lights fade with time or are they likely to perform as they did when new until they die? Those on my 2001 car seem a bit dim but perhaps it's just a matter of expectations. Cheers.
  7. I am looking into installing some LEDs to upgrade the angel eyes on my 2001 E39 from the incandescent yellow. I have factory Xenon headlights and would like to get a rough match in terms of colour. I see most LED conversions seem to use 6000k which seems a bit blue to me. The factory Xenon headlights are around 4300k I think. Has anyone used 5000k LEDs with their factory Xenons? Is there any particular brand you would recommend? Cheers.

Morning all, so while at work, I'm poking around looking for parts, as you do. The factory Xenons on my car are poor. i'm not sure whether i just need new bulbs, or by design they're just a little naff. The build list (from bmwdecoder) lists: Has anyone gone ahead and retrofitted the Bi-Xenon headlamps at all? I've seen a video on the bimmerfest forum where someone has fitted the H7 LED bulbs to their M5, but i thought why not go the whole hog and do the retrofit and get a better light in a newer unit. I'd also like to go round and replace all the rest of the exterior bulbs for LED versions, so does anyone have somewhere they've bought LEDs from for their car, and can recommend? Cheers! Deepan

    H7 Bulb help!

Hi guys, Sorry if I don't explain this too well, but I'll try and clarify where I can. I recently purchased some new LED bulbs for my high beam H7s (wanted to move from halogens). They are the CREE LED bulbs with a heat sink/fan at the end (you can probably see loads on eBay). An example of a similar bulb below; The problem is, I can't use the H7 metal bracket to clip the bulb in place. This is because these new bulbs have a huge fixed heat sink/fan at the end so I can't attach the metal clip from behind. The black H7 fitting ring unclips and slides out through the front for "easy fitting" but I can't slide the metal bracket from the front as the bulbs are thicker than what the bracket allows (see below) It seems as though even if I manage to get both back on the bulb, the fitting ring wont have the room to "clip" back on the bulb which won't fix my problem of a loose fit? Any advice? Anyone had experience fitting these bulbs and how they went about it? I've returned the set I bought as one bulb was faulty so before purchasing a new set, I thought I'd see if anyone has any input on the fitting? Thanks!

Any one tried LED light bulbs?

I really fancy changing some of the traditional light bulbs for some LED ones to give the car a more modern look. However, I'm aware that there can be problems fitting LED light bulbs, particularly the cheap or older LEDs which can cause errors, rapid flashing (indicators), Night club strobing (cold check), or simply not bright as traditional bulbs. I have seen on youtube people fitted "modern" canbus LEDs that doesn't cause the problems mentioned above, and thought I'd jut dig further into it before spending money on them. At the moment, I'm only interested in fitting these bulbs for the front and rear indicators, reverse, and possibly brakes lights. So has any one fitted them before? Here a video of these canbus bright LED bulbs. Maybe I can try 50W?
  11. Fitted led angel eye bulbs an a 5000kelvin bulb to the dipped beam today . Gives a nice effect
  12. one of the bulb holders for the license plate on my e39 is broken and ive been looking on ebay for replacments. i see alot of LED unit available. has anyone tried any of these LED units or do they make the car look very boy racer!!? if you get me. im tempted to just go with OEM effect. but id appreciate opinions
  13. Hi all , Life is slowly returning to normal now that the missing features that resulted from a botched Com box retrofit , have been fixed . I was wondering if any one has had retrofit lights on the door mirrors and door handles ( Extended light package ) . My night vision is getting worse and I have scrapped the spider alloys a couple of times parking next to a kerb at night so if a retrofit can be done it would be most helpful and kind to my alloys . Any advice appreciated thank you
  14. as title - anybody with a facelifted se tried these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32W-CANBUS-H11-H8-OSRAM-XENON-WHITE-LED-FOG-LIGHT-BULBS-UK-PAIR-SPOT-DRL-/301043153718?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item461791fb36 I've tried some of the cheap Chinese LED types, but they didn't fit into the lamp assembly. I emailed the seller, and they assure me that these are the same dimensions as standard H8 bulbs so will fit, but they do offer 30 days money back. I suspect they won't cut through the fog as well though...
  15. Posted up yesterday about a speaker problem (crackling sound then found out the car wouldn't start) since then I have charged the battery and yes, now the speakers seem to be fine. The only odd thing I have found is when I turn the ignition on, the angel eyes will flash 1 after the other for about 5 or so seconds then stop. Another thing I have noticed is when I am pressing different buttons on the stereo, they sometimes flash independently as well. Obviously that isnt right, anyone have any ideas? Hoping its not a expensive fault down to the alternator or similar :-/ Thanks.

    Is this kit worth it?

Was wondering if you guys think this kit is worth it or if its over priced and you could source cheaper by buying individually. Also are the puddle lights a straight fit? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-5-SERIES-E39-LED-NUMBER-PLATE-INTERIOR-LIGHT-KIT-/250819538794
  17. Morning chaps. I can't be the first person to have this query, so I'm hoping one of you guys will be able to assist. Basically, I recently fitted a set of pre-facelift clear corner xenons to my E39 Touring, which I am very happy with. My only issue is that the sidelights now look a bit yellow compared to the super-white light of the xenons (see picture below). Can anyone recommend any straight fit-and-replace sidelight bulbs that give a more "white" light - as close to the OEM BMW xenons as possible would be favourite. Any help/suggestions gratefully received. EDIT: All sorted - full summary post on page 2 (http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/85495-sidelight-bulbs-to-match-my-xenons/?p=897420). With thanks to all those who assisted on this thread.
  18. Well I lasted a few days without wanting to buy some goodies for this car I like the subtle type changes, the sort that cause people to look and say, "that looks really nice, whats different?" I've posted up a thread on replacement BMW emblems in carbon, now I'm looking at side repeaters. My current ones are clear/white and stick out like a sore thumb. I was about to order these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-5-SERIES-E60-SIDE-INDICATORS-SMOKE-BLACK-/330619909179?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cfa7b743b But I've just noticed these ones. Quite a bit more expensive but I like the 'idea' that they will be brighter and therefore good from a safety point of view. My concern is whether they will actually be brighter and whether the car will see the lower wattage bulbs as 'missing' and throw up warnings? I kind of hoped that seeing as these are over £30 some sort of resistor will be included (and I've sent a message to the seller to that effect) Would like your opinions / experience? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250892961231
