There is a lot of hype about carbon cleaning the engine to remove carbon deposits. However, from what I've read, it is much more relevant for direct injection engines on newer cars that tend to build up carbon deposits, esp. those that do a lot of short journeys or idle a lot in traffic. I understand that older injection engines are much less susceptible. The owner of the specialist garage I went to recently thought it wasn't worth doing on an E39. Has anyone had it done and did it make any difference? Did you see a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust during? Thanks!
