  1. Hi. Sorry, another DPF thread. I have tried to search for an answer, but can’t find anything that matches my symptoms. Error codes: 452A - info particulate filter system 4667 - particulate filter system 4212, 4222, 4242, 4252, 4262 - 5 x glow plug, cylinder activation. Some history: Glow plug controller replaced in 2014 when 4 plugs were showing errors. Errors remained, and increased to a fifth plug perhaps three years ago. Thermostats replaced a year ago and engine reaches 92-94C. Regens have always occurred despite glow plug faults, so I never got round to replacing the plugs. Error code 452A appeared about a year ago at ~120k miles (could have been as low as 110k miles as I don’t check codes that frequently!). Reponse from this forum was that this code relates to the DPF having reached a certain mileage, and that it didn’t really mean anything untoward. Particularly given that there were no other issues - regens occuring at usual frequency, pressures normal after regens. More recently, perhaps over the past three weeks, I have noticed much more frequent regens, and this morning i saw the additional error code 4667, which I understand to mean ‘too frequent regens’. The regens cause the exhaust temp to reach the usual 550-600C, and back pressures seem to be suitably low afterwards. However, the regens are now occuring perhaps every other day. Given that my 80 mile round trip commute is largely m’way, this seems way over the top, and perhaps suggests that more soot is being produced than usual? Any advice, suggestions would be very gratefully received! Thank you!
  2. Hello all, Is there anyone out there who knows ISTA well and can tell where I can find the DPF Regen statistics or history please? I know where I would go in ISTA to force a Regen but I can't find the history of automatic Regens done previously. Now solved - Thanks to all of those contributing.
  3. Hey guys, For sale I have my genuine gutted DPF Filter. It comes off a 2007 E60 535d LCI (the pre-lci DPF is different!). Had the internals removed when it got clogged up as I wanted to be DPF-less for a while till my new one arrived. It works just like a straight through pipe but without failing the MOT visual inspection. There is no welds as it has not been cut open like most. I now have my new DPF installed and no longer require this. Price wise I would like £100 for it. I paid £220 to have it removed off the car and gutted so I believe this is fair? Payment method either Paypal Gift or cash in hand. Collection only from GU16 unless you want to arrange your own transport. Any questions, just ask!
  4. I had my exhaust off today, as you do, to wash out the DPF. On the basis commercial vehicle DPFs are routinely washed I thought I'd have a go at mine. The car was telling me there was 600 miles left on the DPF (it's pre-LCi). What a joy it was separating the DPF. The bolts were rusted lumps but they sit in sleeves, so grind off the ends and the bolt is still solidly holding it all together. Angle grinder, blow torch and air chisel all were required. The DPF seems clean now, but what else do I find, the exhaust flexi is leaking. I guess that would explain the slight whiff of exhaust under the bonnet. The flexi is part of the Cat and there's not a lot of pipework to attach a clamp on replacement so what I'm looking for is recommendations of suppliers of replacement flexis. I suspect there's some cheap tat that won't last 5 mins out there and there's decent stuff too. I'm going to have to pay someone to chop the old one off and weld the new one on (I don't have a welder) so I want a quality part. Recommendations please. Here's the offending article:
  5. Guys and girls I have a 2008 520d Msport Manual lost the turbo on the run up to Xmas so havent had the car for the past month or so, have been driving my pd130 golf !!! So Here is the issue Ive had it back yesterday new turbo etc and with some “improvements” Egr dpf out and a remap from 177 up to 220 is what Ive been told!! My golf is much quicker had a mate drive the bmw lasting night and I was literally parked on the boot he couldn’t pull away. Dont know if it’s expecting to much from 2 tonne of car but it don’t have the feel of 220 ! It’s been with the mapper all day as it was suspected the egr needed to be re blanked a different way ! This was completed and the car ready to collect and it still don’t feel any quicker infact it feels very much standard but it does feel lighter on its feet if that makes sense ! ! I’ve paid near 1200 for all works to be completed new charger service dpf egr and the map itself. ARE ANY OF YOU GUYS ON OR NEAR M4 CORRIDOR BETWEEN BRIDGEND AND BRISTOL WHO HAVE THE SAME MODS EGR DPF 220 MAP ? I’m looking for a comparison nothing more so if anyone can assist me I’d be really appreciated i don’t want to go to a different mapper ( yet) I’d like to see how others perform first and then make my thoughts known !! Thanks in advance

  7. Hi, My 2010 F10 520d only as 59k on the clock and has lost its power for some time now. It has a distinct deep humming sound when i put my foot down -sort of like when the boy racers have an induction kit on a 1.0l car and floor it, but no whooshing/throaty sounds, just that humming noise as though the car is drowning on too much air going into the engine (sorry, that's the best i could describe it!). You can hear it from within the cabin and it sounds like the exhaust is giving out a constantly long deep fart (sorry!!) I've been to one garage and they say it's the DPF that needs deleting, another says it's the EGR as the DPF light isn't on. I've taken it down the motorway a few times now with cruise control on and with the revs at 2k for 50+miles, but it still hasn't regenerated! Another garage has mentioned it may be a vacuum leak, as that deep sound could be a loose/split hose somewhere, letting in air where it shouldn't (i have an inkling that this may be it -i hope!!). I'm getting very frustrated with the car and the fact that no garage agrees on the same diagnosis! It seems like a very common issue on these cars, as I've seen on a couple of forums now and it's really putting me off keeping it any longer. I've had it plugged in on a Bosch KTS 570 and got the following error codes: 28CD00 - Control unit at LIN data bus missing message 279800 - Charge-air cooling faulty I have no idea what the above are in regards to and can't seem to find anything on here to clarify. Anybody care to share their 2 cents? Thanks
  8. I changed my stats 2 years ago as I was aware from this forum of their frailty and impact on DPF. The other day I had the Particulate Filter Blocked warning come up. Immediately checked my temps and they were low again - high 70's. Are stats a consumable item on BMW's? So I have changed both stats again and temps are stable at 94 deg. I was hoping this would allow a regen to happen but it hasn't! Still getting the warning! I don't have any coding software so cant check whats going on. Would you expect fixing the stats should resolve a regen problem? Would the error need cancelling with coding software first? Do I need to force a regen? Could it just be the DPF is clogged (130K miles)? Advice welcome... Thanks Dave
  9. Hi All, This morning whilst on my commute I had the Particulate filter message pop up on the screen, its a E61 520d auto with 22k on the engine and 157k on the ancillaries i.e Exhaust, Now my commute to work is 70miles straight up the A3, at 65-70mph 1:20 min, as I got off onto the slip road it popped the message up, checked the temperatures on a short run just now and they were fine sitting happy at 88-90 so I'm kinda wondering what is going on and why would it have a fault. any help would be great.
  10. My E61 came back from a recent service with 8 fault codes relating to DME/DDE - they used an Autologic Quick Test. 4203 Glow control unit 4548 Power Management, vehicle electrical system 4212 - 4262 - Glow plug Cylinder 1-6 I've alway been told that the car won't do a DPF regen if there are errors with the glow plug but on a long trip this weekend, I'm 99.99% sure it did two regens; Lower, boomy exhaust note and slight increase in fuel consumption (looking at the dial under the rev counter). (The car has done 112K miles and the DPF back pressure test came back as 4.875 mbar which shows low soot build up.) Anyone have any thoughts on white might be going on? Thanks

DPF issues and cold coolant temp??

Hi, thanks in advance for your helpful advice. Car: 2009 LCI E60 530d m Sport Auto Step.... 88k miles Can DIS came up two weeks ago with "Particulate Filter Error".... I investigated fault codes and had; 4222 Glow Plugs cylinder 1 4222 Glow Plugs cylinder 2 4667 Not Present - Particulate Filter system 480A Present - Particulate Filter system 481A Present - Particulate Filter system 4D00 Exhaust Back pressure It was diagnosed that the DPF was blocked and not regenerating due to errors and glow plus - and on test drive the hidden menu KTMP-MOM was reporting that the temperate on a warmed up run was on 62-67c range. I had all 6 glow plugs and the relay changed. The DPF was cleaned using the foam injection kit - garage said pressure was all back to normal. The car was tested again and the DPF faults were cleared and stayed that way, but the car was still not getting hot, holding at a temp range between 60-70c The main Thermostat and the EGR Stat were both replace the following day.... I went for a run - ambient temp was warm afternoon say 20c, the car got hot and went up to 92c, a temp I had never seen the car running at so assumed all was sorted with the stats being replace. Today I went on a 50 mile motorway drive... ran the car in auto both in regular 'D' mode and in 'M/S' to hold the car in 4th.... I could not at any speed get the temp above 70c.... in fact towards the end of the journey on the M62 back from Manchester into leeds at 70mph in 4th, the temp fell as low as 53c I am told the car will not regen unless it's running over 75c, but my stats seem crazy low!? - Is it just me stressing for no reason, or am I missing something such as could it be a faulty temp sensor on the coolant? Any advice on what else I can check.... Sorry for the long post - thanks.

    2009 525d DPF Light

Hi all, A few days ago my DPF warning light came on for the first time, the cars done just under 140k(mainly motorway) so its had a good run on this DPF. I've run it about 250 miles since(on the motorway) hoping it would go into regen but this doesn't appear to want to happen. My question is, I've read else where about the thermostats causing the car to not wanting to go into regen, what is the easiest way for me to tell if the stat has gone and needs changing? Or is it just the case that my DPF has exceeded its life ?? I'm considering replacing the DPF for a straight through pipe and having the ECU recoded to blank it out. I know that part of the MOT is a visible check of the DPF, so I was thinking in replacing the DPF with the old one(cleaned) just to get it through the MOT every year ?? OR Depending on the which type of DPF it is hollowing out enough of the filter to put a pipe though effectively so it looks like the DPF is still there for the MOT(that if its like the type bellow?) but if its the like this picture~(below) I've read about people hollowing them out and welding them back. I'm not the best at welding and will probably mess it up and cant find anyone that will do it in my area, do you know if you can buy them pre hollowed or something?? My car is a 2009(09) 525d MSPORT which filter is mine likely to be the first or second??? Or if anyone else has done DPF removal\replacement what you recommend? Thanks all

    Cables/software 2009 525d for DPF

Hi all, I was wondering what cables/software I needed to diagnose my DPF faults including dpf pressures and temp also if possible force a regen? Car is a 2009(09) 525d Msport. Thanks

    520D DPF reset?

The dreaded dpf error has been showing up on my car for the last 4000miles and I have read many posts on how to fix it but seem to be getting nowhere!! It has done 168000 mainly motorway miles. The error comes up after 10 minutes. If I turn engine off and then on again it comes up again after another 10 minutes, there is no obvious loss of power or change in mpg. I first tried 2 bottles of Forte this made no difference Tank is 3/4 full of diesel, temp on hidden menus is 88-90 degrees, there are no glow plug errors I then resorted to using the INPA s/w to get the error codes. These are 4D4A and 452A which indicates the DPF needs replacing. I then measured backpressure. Idle is 5mbar, 2000rpm is 18mbar and cut off is 45 mbar. These are all below the max limits of 35,75 & 200. It says 6631 miles since last regen and 0 km life left i have tried to force the dpf to do a regen but it hasn't done it. Can it be forced once these error codes are present? If I clear them they come back immediately. I have tried resetting whilst driving but that made no difference. If I replace the DPF how does it know it has been replaced? Is there a setting in INPA where you need to tell it a new one has been fitted? 160,000 miles is a bit over 250000km, does it automatically think it needs changing at that mileage? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I dont really want hassle of remapping etc just prefer to keep it standard Cheers, Chris

    Exhaust failure at the DPF

Evening, So the issue; The flexy part of the back end of the DPF has snapped off from the rest of my exhaust. Looks as if the gearbox exhaust mount has snapped off, leaving the weight of the exhaust to slowly tear away from the DPF. I got my car up today and had a ganders, found that its a clean break. Now I anticipated this so I bought a flexy DPF repair piece from ebay. I have managed to remove the damaged piece at the end of the flexy and hoped that this repair piece would be a simple fix. Seems not. The repair piece has no way of repairing it at all. With all hope of removing the DPF (which has been gutted by the way) being shattered due to the near impossible access to it from under the bonnet; without removing all sorts. Has anyone else had these sorts of issues before? is there a repair piece that will work? At the moment its either a bodge job weld on this new flexy piece or, new DPF (God no!) the flexy appears to be part of the DPF you see. Any info will be highly appreciated

    535D SOUNDS LIKE A TRACTOR :(

HI ALL, IM NEW TO ALL THIS BOUGHT MYSELF A 2004 535D. EVERY RECEIPT FOR THE CAR, ALL SERVICED BY BMW UP UNTIL APRIL 2015. I WAS RETURNING FROM A TRIP TO THE SOUTH OF UK AND BACK AT THE WEEKEND AND ON THE WAY BACK I WAS CRUISING AT 70/75MPH. I GOT CAUGHT BEHIND A BAD BOY CORSA WHO WOULDNT SHIFT INTO THE MIDDLE LANE SO I UNDERTOOK HIM. IN MY FRUSTRATION I PUT MY FOOT DOWN. A WAY TO SHOW HIM WHO IS BOSS REALLY. WE ALL DO IT. AS I ACCELERATED FROM 70 TO AROUND 100 (I HAD MUSIC BLASTING) I NOTICED A STRANGE VIBRATION SUDDENLY. I SLOWED DOWN TO AROUND 60 AND TURNED MY MUSIC OFF. GUT WRENCHING THINKING I HAD BLEW UP MY BEAUTY. THE 535 STILL SEEMED TO HAVE THE POWER THERE BUT IT SOUNDED HORRIFIC, AS IF THE EXHAUST WAS BLOWING MASSIVELY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE EXHAUST MID SECTION. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THAT AREA. I PULLED OVER IN THE NEXT SERVICES, 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND INVESTIGATED FURTHER. THE SOUND WASNT COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AS I HAD HOPED. I POKED MY HEAD UNDER THE CAR AND SAW/HEARD NOTHING BAD FROM THERE. HOWEVER AT IDLE, THE ENGINE SOUNDED HORRIBLE. I SHUT THE CAR DOWN STRAIGHT AWAY AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN 10 MINUTES LATER WHILST I WAITED FOR MY FRIEND WITH HIS TOW TRUCK. THE SOUND WAS STILL BAD BUT WASNT AS BAD AS WHEN IT WAS WARMER WHEN I HAD PULLED OVER. THE CAR IS NOW SAT ON MY DRIVEWAY AND IM AWAY IN SCOTLAND FOR WORK. I PLAN TO GET HOME TO IT AT THE WEEKEND AND HAVE A BETTER LOOK AND MAYBE EVEN CALL THE AA OUT TO SEE IF THEY CAN EVALUATE THE SITUATION. TILL THEN, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? OR HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE? IM HOPING ITS NOT TOO PRICEY, ALREADY HAD TO COUGH UP FOR A NEW CRANK VIBRATION PULLEY, ALTERNATOR AND AIR CON COMPRESSOR. WITH NEW BELT OF COURSE. HELP PLEASE GUYS GREATEST REGARDS TOM
  18. I am quite new to this forum but I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for great writes-up which helped a lot in the past. I'm facing issues with my DPF since more than 1 year ago and after more than 15 times tries of force-regen with no success at all and now I am thinking to remove it. Before doing this, I would like to ask you all for an advice of which garage should I use to do the removal and also I've read somewhere that once you remove a DPF the turbo might be exposed to too much air which can cause premature failures of the turbo. If any of you have still the DPF removed, could you advise me if there is any downside of this? From what I've read over the forum I know there should only be good news after a DPF removal but I'm quite skeptical at the moment, so I'm not sure what to do. Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you so much
  19. Hey, just had a question so wondered if anyone here could answer for me I've had an LCI 525d M Sport (Manual) for almost a year now, love it! But I figured it's about time. Time to give her a remap for her birthday present. But I'm in a dilemma.. I've been reading about a DPF gut and EGR delete on many of these forums to go alongside the remap for obvious benefits such as no clog worries and bhp gains. I do know it may come with a bit of extra smoke but the efficiency and power gains will offset this in my eyes so I can potentially live with the smoke. However there's one thing putting me off.. 1 - I know if it's a gut, it won't really be detectable in an MOT so that won't be a bother. But what if you need to sell the car in the future? Has anyone experienced any problems in removing the DPF and trying to sell the car thereafter? Especially since you're doing a permanent (I think?) illegal move in removing the dpf? Wouldn't really want to fork out £1200+ installing a DPF to sell the car.. PS. What are the pro/cons of doing a remap without the DPF gut & EGR delete? Thanks!
  20. So lets cut to the chase, couple months back i went to avon tuning and gutted my dpf and got the egr delete and remap. But only now i have decided that i want to liven the car up in terms of noise. I wanted to give the car to an audible prescence lol. So i decided to resort to a downpipe, now i hope not to spend silly money on a downpipe but keep the cost minimal..can somone reccomend me a downpipe other than the ecotune downpipe??? I have the m57n2 engine aswell Will appreciate it alot

  22. Also is 115k miles too much for a remap now? Just curious because I'm considering getting one for my Pre-LCI F10 530d. Are the ebay tuning boxes any good? Do they actually deliver their promises for better economy? Please post any experiences you've had.

    New DPF for £200-£300!?

Hi All, Can anyone tell me what the catch with these are? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-530d-3-0-DIESEL-PARTICULATE-FILTER-DPF-FITTING-KIT-/140672631207?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CPlat_Gen%3AE61&hash=item20c0be01a7 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diesel-Particulate-Filter-Exhaust-Soot-DPF-BMW-5-SERIES-520D-05-11-/351229921820?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CPlat_Gen%3AE61&hash=item51c6ef4a1c http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIESEL-PARTICULAR-FILTER-DPF-FOR-BMW-5-3-0-2004-2007-BM11031-/261851737730?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CPlat_Gen%3AE61&hash=item3cf7946e82 Thanks.
  24. My car has been horrendously jerky and sluggish since last weeks meet at Kent. I figured it was down to a split in the EGR pipe getting worse. However, when I hooked the car up to DIS yesterday I found that there were (supposedly) 6 glow plug errors and that the DPF was partially blocked. This is interesting as the trip to Kent was a 340+ mile round trip for me. Somewhat confused I wiped the codes and took the car for a quick drive. The car pretty much immediately started to regen. So what have I learnt from this? Well, if there are errors showing in the engine it prevents the car from regening. Whilst regening the car couldn't be put in cruise control as the regen would stop. The car only regened at anything over 50mph and whilst at 60mph the revs sat at 2,300 rpm. Finally, it made no difference if the car was in D or DS mode. This is true for my vehicle 530d 2005 running 2005 software, stats replaced two years ago with 80Kish on car. It leads me to conclude that if your vehicle has DDE errors, particularly glow plug ones, it will NOT regen. Hope this is helpful to know for future reference. Horsey.
