Best i-Pod for KCA-420i and unit location

Thanks again Richard. Super helpful and detailed reply as usual.
  2. What is the best i-Pod type and generation to use with the KCA-420i? What is the better one for speed etc or are they all the same? I borrowed my friends 2nd gen Touch 8gb and it worked OK. Did take a moment to build all the artists etc but suppose it is the same on all. I know most i-Pods are now 5v so will need the charger adapter. Also plan on locating the i-Pod in the centre console. Where is best to place the KCA-420i on an E46? TIA

The TV is useless now anyway so is it worth using that? There are two connections/leads to the module, is it a pass through(ie, in and out) to the BM54 or is it its own aerial. Is it powered as think the TUA is a lesser voltage so cannot accept 12v.

And that was with the aerial dangling off the rear blind lol

Right. i-Pod is now fully working OK which is the good news. Bad news is the DAB unit is definitely not picking uo any stations :(. Looks like there is a choice of LL, LA and LW but all say Waiting then No Text after a few minutes. I have the aerial laying over the car onto the windscreen so should pick something up. Bit miffed as the CD changer I bought was scrap and now the TUA looks like it too. TUA was not cheap either so hope I can get my money back on that. Any ideas or words of wisdom before I try to return it?

The extra supplement instructions? Yeah. Some reading there! Was not wanting to put the aerial in yet til I knew the DAB unit worked and figured out where to site it. I had the boot open when testing but think the aerial needs grounding which I didn't do. Will have another go tomorrow. Getting there now. Read somewhere that you can use the TV module aerial, is that right? Hopefully my Gen 13 ULF will turn up tomorrow. Got a convertible Bluetooth mic with the upper steering shroud to fit to go with it(it is a coupe but got an Alpina build number plaque sited where the coupe mic fits!), should be a nice build when finished and looks like I can pair using the Intrave. Thanks again for your help Richard. Greatly appreciated

Thanks for the instructions, I have now changed the Source to DAB. It is not finding any stations at the moment so hope the tuner is working OK. I have the aerial connected but just sat in the boot and the car is down the side of my house. Will get the car out tomorrow and try to get some stations. Fingers crossed! Printed off the Intravee instructions to have a read, and there is a hell of a lot to read! When an item in the menu is selected with a press of the the rotary knob, some have a star that comes up but nothing happens. Does that mean it is not available?

I will give it a go later. Thanks again Richard, think I would have binned everything if I had not had your help.

Yeah TUA is powered up and leads in the right way. Does anything need initialising or setting when you add it in? Heard the units can fail, is there any other way to confirm if it is faulty or not? I will have another look tonight at it as it was getting late last night. I am using a friends i-Pod touch, would that be fully compatible? Thought there was a search function for artist and track but did not seem to work. I have a brand new KCA-420i I can use instead of the used one currently fitted to eliminate the unit or lead.

Right, think I am getting somewhere now. Managed to update the unit properly now and hey presto, it works! Well, kind of. It recognises there is an i-Pod connected and it plays but it is a bit sketchy. Cuts in and out and has no track names listed. Keeps flicking back to menu screen. Connected up a TUA-100DAB and nothing seems to happen when that is plugged in. Got two different menu screens. One when I chose the original CD changer option and another when pressing the SEL button. What should I have and what do I need to do next?

Right, got my lead :). Downloaded FTDI device driver and got that sorted. Connected the cable to the Intravee and ran the downloader. Changed the Port to the right one and the page filled with text. I assumed that was the unit updating?!? I closed it and retried with no luck. Ran it again and the second time it said... User type: Normal *Clock TZ=0_0, DST=0 AUTOSET=No 00:02:08.69 PSU SLEEP... ..........................................i I have to admit I have no clue what the hell I am doing and managed to somehow get this far. I am good with mechanicals but computer code is beyond me. Any help or advice wold be greatly appreciated before I give up on this

Ah right, hope it something as simple as that. Tried the reset but not having it. Cannot keep it on the CD screen again now. Just got to wait for this lead now then and hope it sorts it

If it is, could that prevent it from working?

Now I can keep it on the CD menu, its it worth setting the UI? Read somewhere you turn radio on/off, press < then > and on/off again.
