  1. I agree Mike there's far to much electronic wizardry to go wrong, good when it works and a right pita when it doesn't. Then there's the build "quality" of new stuff... Almost everything was better made years ago.
  2. I don't know what you mean "about via" Yes they all have folk saying mainly good about all 3, probably the main reason Mackie can be over a 1000 more is they are a bigger place and give a 3 yr warranty whereas Cal and top gear give one so that has to budgeted into their (Mackie) price. I'll go to them tomorrow and talk with them all and take it from that. It'll need recovered there as there's no drive at all now, only reverse Im VERY tempted to convert to manual but it's a ball ache of a job plus the mech I use wouldn't do it and dont know if either of them would either.
  3. I know but they're easy about 1000-1500 extra ie 3-3500 cal and top gear are 2000 plus the guy that runs cal trans worked for Mackie
  4. For an auto gearbox rebuild or know anybody that has.. Caledonian Transmissions Top Gear transmissions
  5. Sounds fine to me She was mad because I said I'd get another 2 axles and have 1 each corner so I could get under it, her drive (mono) slants so I'd obviously need it higher at one side. I think what gets her (and me) I hate doing things outside as nobody else does and makes me bloody paranoid and get angry a lot. I said that's why they make them (axles) so folk like me can get under and do stuff...it's caused quite a row None I was only going to do it, he said the same ie get another 2 axles and do it myself...it's annoying me that all I need to do is get a bloody thing a bit higher and level and top up if necessary that's all...is that ok with you?!
  6. You're right, when I asked I thought about that, I've got 2 axles, will get another 2 and my jack lifts about the same height got a few bits wood lying about. The only now is the level bolt on mine seems to be a smallish Allen bolt and not the 17mm hex that I've been watching on vids, I just hope it loosens.
  7. To change the atf? The mechanic I use I on holiday for 2 weeks and I can't it (530d estate) high or level enough to change it....is there a way round it I can't think of.

    Is this the right atf

For a 99/00 530d...I know I'd probably been asked a million times but I was ready to order but thought I'd ask here first https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-E39-525D-530D-AUTOMATIC-TRANSMISSION-GEARBOX-PAN-FILTER-SEAL-KIT-OIL-FLUID-/161368604150 Then again with some of the stuff I'm reading ie dislodging crap I'll wondering just leaving it till if/when it goes bang, that's the reason I got it cheap..... Think I'm in a catch 22 As for the type....GM5L40E that right

    How's this done

It's new to me but 18yrs old, the only thing I'd like to do in time is change the steering wheel for the 3 spoke one and the wheels as it's the turbine type I think they're called....but at least it's all original and low miles for its year.

    How's this done

Cheers, I know about them but I'll go to Caledonian transmissions as the guy used to work for them but cheaper. I'll change the oil first and take it from there it will need rebuilt though and budgeted for it, the mechanic I use thinks I'm bamy doing it on such an old car....I probably am.
