    Traction Control

Can anyone answer the following. I normally drive in sport mode as the car then responds more as it should rather than being strangled. If I part turn the traction control off, we get traction mode (or similar) on the dash. If I turn the tracton conttrol fully off, what mode am I using? It appears that sport is turned off, as if I press the sport button, sport comes up on the dash, and the traction control appears to be back on......

    Traction Control

Agreed I'm still finding out about the various bits and pieces in the cars electronics as Beemers are new to me. Shame I can't get e0sys to work, although there's every chence I could really cause myself some problems!! I have a feeling it's going to be re-mapped very shortly which should sort out any performsnce issues. As it's only got 37K miles and is 4 years old, I suspect it's been driven gently. Time to change all that soon..........

    DIY Service

Hi I notice your car is a 2010 model, and in another post you said it was in for repair due to rusty doors ( i noticed the rather lush courtesy car!) Is that normal for BMW to honour the anti corosion warranty for so many years, or is that a aprt of the warranty you have?

    Re-map in or near Hampshire

Has anyone used the services of BM conversions, Wessex Tuning, Ozmo motorsport or any of the other advertised remap suppliers in and around Hampshire? I have a 2014 520D with the N47T engine and 37K miles. The general price around this area seems to be in the region of £400, but that seems to be for a generic map producing a claimed 220 bhp with an extra 15% increase in torque. Obviously Mr Mashed Potatoes in Chester offers a great service with what appears to be much more than a generic map at a great price, but a 7 hour round trip is the only downside from Hampshire to Chester. I'm struggling to find any online recommendations, so if anyone has any experience or recommendations for this area, that would be most appreciated.
  5. Mark I've taken a couple of photos fo the ECU in situ. Are you able to determine which type it is from those? Dave

    connecting iphone

Ive got a 2014 520D and I can't stream music either. I was a bit surprised at that as my Insignia did everything, and it's only a Vauxhall!!!

    Re-map in or near Hampshire

HI Rob The last time I looked at their website, I think they were looking for about £1100.00, which quite honestly is a bit expensive!! What sort of figure do you think they may do a deal at? Dave
  10. After I posted my reply, I then realised that it wasn't appropriate for the type of ecu in my car. I did think it would be a silly question..... Dave
  11. Silly question time coming up..... I have a 2014 520D (184bhp) N47T engine 37K miles. As I'm in Hampshire, Chester is a bit far to go, but i notice you say it can be sent through the mail! Does that apply to the OBD port upgrade, and if so how does that work?
  12. That all sounds very formula one, but what does it actually mean? I notice that when first braking from 50mph upwards, there's very little immediate retardation until I significantly increase the pedal pressure. Is that regeneration or a brake fault?

    S1CDA Brake energy regeneration

It sounds more exciting than it actually i then! A bit like the sport mode in a 2.0 diesel.....

    S1CDA Brake energy regeneration

That doesn't sound at all exciting!! I think I'd rather all the brake force input through the pedal was transferred to the calipers!!

    Middle headlight units

The outside headlamp units on my 2014 520D SE house the xenons, but the inner units only seem to have the angel eyes without any other lamp fitted. I take it that these light units normally have the cornering lamps fitted, but if that's not on the option list they just blank it out? Anyone have the answer, and is there any way I can easily examine the unit to find out? There's an impressed inspection hatch on top of the lamp unit (under a lift up cover) that doesn't open but would appear to line up with where the bulbs should be on the inner lamps. It's a real journey of discovery finding out what is and isn't fitted on a secondhand beemer!!

Thanks for the answers. I like the vin decoder option and I'll give that a go.

    Alarm System

I've recently bought a 2104 520D with low mileage, and I'm still getting to know the car. To my surprise, the car doesn't seem to be fitted with an alarm system, although it has an immobiliser. Is it possible or financially viable to retro-fit a BMW alarm, or should I go for aftermarket, and if so, can anyone give a recommendation for a good unit and supplier in Hampshire? Cheers Dave

    Bimmer Code

I've been playing with Bimmer Code and ABD Auto Doctor, and now I have digital power and torque displays when I pop it in Sport mode.cI don't recall having access to those before. Also, I've noted several comments saying that the dipping nearside mirror in reverse only works if the selector switch is set for the nearside. Mine only works if the switch is set to the offside mirror. Has anyone unlocked anything special with the above 2 apps?

    Alarm System

I only wanted the audible confirmation so that I knew I actually had a working alarm, as I had been unable to set it off. 530D or 535D would have been nice, but I have to do as I'm told!! Anyway, I used to have a quick Porsche, but soon realised that there are only so many times you can "give it the beans" without geting caught, and the %20D is very comfy, and still gets down the road better then the insignia it replaced, and it's more economical-at the mo! Re-mapping on the South Coast. Anyone got any recommendations!!

    Alarm System

Either way, now that I,ve confirmed it's got an alarm-however temperamental or inconfigurable- I can forget about that and start thinking about increasing the power a bit more. It's a nice motorway cruiser, and handles the twisty stuff just fine. All it needs is a bit more grunt when it's really needed. B.T.W. does anyone use anything other than sport mode on these motors, as the ECO modes just seem to dull throttle response too much?

Great forum by the way, and I've learned a few tricks already.

    Alarm System

Right then..... I sat in the car and tried to lock the car, but it wouldn't lock. Presumably the ultrasonic sensors are working. I then opened and firmly shut the bonnet, then locked the car from outside. There was no audible confirmation but the usual flashing indicator lights and red light on the mirror confirmed the car was locked. Then I took the key out of the remote and unlocked the car with the key and opened the door, and Hey Presto! the alarm sounded. So it does have an alarm, but refuses to be programmed for an audible confirmation. Thanks for the replies.

I should have said that it's an SE model without the wide screen nav.
