  1. I recently changed my Daytime running lights (H8 fitment), as the RH side one failed. I changed them to a set of MTEC cosmic blue version (non LED), a week later, the RH side has blown again. has anyone seen this problem, or is it just a coincidence?? Anything that could be causing this to happen?

Hi All, just curious how or when the car knows it needs to regen. Only asking as i been watching soot levels. On the first 40 mile trip home last night, soot level rose from 3 grams to 9 grams. Then on my way in to work today (another 40 miles) soot rose from 9 grams to approx 17 grams. Is this normal??

Yeah, out of the 40 miles each way to work, only 4 miles is non Motorway/dual carriageway. I think keeping the revs at 2000 instead of 3000 rpm did the trick. Coolant temp on hidden menu, didn't drop below 87 degrees Thanks

Yes, I'l be keeping a an eye on it. I travel 80 miles per day for work, so in theory should be plenty of time to regen. I have now got the DIS and INPA software, but struggling to get the DIS to work

Well im hoping that this is the end of my DPF troubles for now. After everyone's advice (which i'm grateful for), I drove to work this morning, clearing 480A fault just before i hit the motorway and run car at 65mph at 2000 revs (5th gear). Couldn't tell that anything was happening except that the 480A fault did not re-appear in the 40 minute drive. When i got to work, i wasn't very hopeful as it didn't feel like anything was happening, but though i'd check anyway using Carly. Soot levels had dropped from approx 50g (initially approx 70g) to 3.67g and 'Regeneration Requested' has gone from 8.00 to 0.00 So just wanted to update and say THANK YOU to everyone who give me advice on getting it to clear. I will be keeping an eye on this now. ha-ha

Ok cheers, I think the cause of it, was my throttle control valve connector was loose after having my swirl flaps removed. teah the 480a is the only fault returning now

Reading about regen and was wondering is it better to just get car to do driving regen or is it the same to force one??

as Gonzo said above, my engine temp was still lower while holding at 3000 revs, soon as I flicked it back into auto coming off motorway, engine temp climbed back up to usual temp of 88 to 90 so I’m confused now

Well I managed to clear code with Carly, kept checking while it was do the engine pulsing thing that I said about above, and there was no code for about 30 minutes travelling down M4, soon as I got off m4 and had to slow down, the code re-appeared.

Ok, but I though the revs had to be over a certain rpm?? 80 in 6th would be less than 2000 revs in a 530d. do I just leave it in drive then (auto) or would you select a manual gear? does it need a certain RPM?? i was wondering why the temp goes down to about 84 when I was holding it at about 3000!rpm in 4th, usually my car runs at about 88 to 90 degrees (recently had new stats)

    CARLY

Well on the way into work today, i cleared faults as i got onto motorway. Got car up to 65 in 4th holding around 3000 revs and something started to happen. Engine seemed to be pulsing slightly, revs felt like they was going up (although rev counter stayed stable) for a few seconds, then back down, and as the revs seem to go up, the MPG needle was dropping from 50 mpg to 30 mpg. This happened for about 15 minutes (stopped after ten minutes as as i hit roundabout, then started soon as i got back up to 65mph). I checked levels using Carly App, soot level has gone down from 78g to 52g , but still states 'Regeneration Requested 8.00' I got software and lead coming today so hopefully be able to see whats happening. Anybody seen this before??
